I donated for the first time a few weeks ago, I always had high BP before. September 22nd is the next date I can donate, I'll be there. Down here the blood center is giving a free pint of ice cream with each pint you donate. I believe you can donate plasma in between blood donations.

I donate regularly in Atlanta. They guilted me into it saying that there was some component in my blood that was crucial for babies. Never looked it up, but I wouldn't be surprised if that magical component was present in everyone's blood. I've kept going ever since anyway. Do it if you can.

I think this depends on your blood center. I used to donate red blood all the time (universal donor blood) and then I started donating platelets.

How often can one give blood?
Regulations in the United States allow people to donate whole blood once every 56 days. The waiting period between donations can be different for other blood components. For example, donating only platelets in a process called apheresis requires only a 3 day wait before a person can give again. Donating two units of red blood cells through a similar process doubles the waiting period to 112 days.

But, at my center, if I have given platelets during that 56 day period, they won't let me also give blood. Since I give platelets so often, I have essentially stopped giving blood.

I have heard that donating Plasma hurts like hell. Is this true?

I donate blood every few months.

It doesn't hurt a lot more than giving blood, it's slightly bigger bore needles and if you give via aphoresis then it's a needle in each arm. But it only takes about an hour, sometimes a bit longer. They give a nice recliner to sit in and a movie to watch.
