When my oldest kids were small, you couldn't find pumpkins anywhere in South Africa. People here prefer other forms of squash. So, we convinced a local fruit and vegetable store to buy some at the market and guaranteed that we would buy a couple dozen. Then, we had Halloween parties for the kids and we lined our driveway and the street with them. Some people thought we were Satan worshippers and stopped by to tell us that we couldn't possibly understand how we were corrupting young minds.

Now that we have our final little one coming up the ranks, we still have an annual Halloween party. Except now, kids are beginning to go trick or treat (small numbers but growing) and you can find pumpkins lots of places (but not like in the USA). Either my wife or I try to bring back some authentic American candy when we travel there so that we can give some of that out at the party and the kids just love it. Its lots of fun for the kids and it gives us a chance to say something about American culture and build good associations for the country.

You know, people on Medicare, like yourself! :wink2:

Please tell me you have carved a pumpkin in your life.

Nope.

When you grow up on a farm that is 1/5 mile back from the road and your nearest neighbor lives a half-mile down that road, there is not reason to carve them as there is no reason to display them.

Nowadays, I don't celebrate Halloween.
