I've been telling people basketball has been in a state of decline the last 7 years. No more fundamentals, no more team play, it's really sad. And don't give me, the rest of the world is catching up bull $#$#. You don't go from killing teams by 50 every game to getting beat by 20 without a state of decline.

The level of play in the NBA has been on the decline for a number of years and I don't think it's news to anyone who used to enjoy it. It doesn't help that the league is becoming loaded with high school players who clearly need the seasoning 4 years at college would provide, not to mention all the college kids who enter the draft early. Watch a game on ESPN Classic some time and see how good teams like the Lakers, Celtics and Pistons were. Those teams would throttle the teams of today.

Practice? We're talking about practice?

Try explaining this to the brothas in the barber shop, i've tried and failed.

How old are they? Whenever I talk to people about basketball the younger guys claim players today are way better athletes who would run circles around the players from the 70's and 80's. The older guys are well aware of the fact they played a much better brand of basketball back then.

Here's a good article

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/040804

1. We would play Michael Redd more.

Best dead-eye shooter in the league. Can't miss from 22 feet. Needs about 0.00004 seconds to square up. If he was playing for any other country -- Argentina, Italy, Croatia, you name it -- they would revolve their offenses around him. And yet Team USA isn't using Redd at all.

You know why?

BECAUSE HE'S NOT ON THE EFFING TEAM!!!!!!!!!!!!

For months and months, I assumed he was one of the guys who rejected Team USA because of the whole "I'm afraid of spending two weeks in Athens for security reasons, yet I'm perfectly fine going to clubs frequented by gangbangers and drug dealers" logic that makes the NBA so oddly enjoyable. Nope. They never asked him. Instead, they doubled up at the "3" with Richard Jefferson and Shawn Marion, two guys who give you similar things. They're both great athletes, good open-court players, solid defenders and above-average outside shooters. I like both of them. You only need one. If anything, you're putting them in a situation where they're competing against one another, almost like hiring Keanu Reeves and Paul Walker for the same movie. And if that's not bad enough, 'Melo and 'Bron can both play the "3."

To recap: With the shorter three-point line and the collapsing zone, international rules are specifically designed to benefit small forwards who can reliably drain 20-footers. Other than maybe Carmelo -- and that's a huge "maybe" -- none of our four guys qualifies. And we had over 300 players to pick from. Perfectly logical.

That's because these younger guys haven't really seen the older players play. No doubt the Doctor J of the early 70s would still be all-star caliber today. And even if today's player is indeed the superior athlete, it doesn't mean he's the superior player. Technical ball skills are one thing, and understanding the subtleties of the game and deftly executing fundamentals are another. That's why Italy beat our ass, despite the fact that none of them would compare to our guys in a slam dunk contest or "mad skillz" dribbling contest.

Are these rosters locked into at this point? The only reason Kobe couldn't play was his trial. With the increasing possibility that his case isn't going to go to trial, would they be able to add him to the roster if he's available before the games? We clearly need some shooters, and he would be a huge help.

This "Dream Team" has no heart. They should be dominating international play. I cannot stand the NBA players. I'm sure they would win by 30+ if there was money at the end of road. God forbid they play hard for their country. It is absolutely embarrassing that they need a 1/2 court shot to beat a team that couldn't qualify for the Athens games. I could now give two shits about them winning another game. Actually, it would be pretty funny if they lose out. Ok maybe not.

yeah i really want that rapist representing my country.

when they came out with the first (the REAL) "Dream Team" i was all for it, because the premise was they would have the NBAers for a ONE TIME, kick everybodys ass thing. it was amazing the talent they assembled. now its a joke.

they need to go back to college players, and possibly the lebrons and mello's of the association. no tim duncan, no allen iverson.....none of that crap. a team of lebron, mello, and some solid NCAA role players would OWN the olympics. hell, take out lebron and mello and just use amatures like you are supposed to, they would still rock the place.

get the NBAers back to their mansions, wives, and mistresses (who they may or may not have to rape) and let the team players represent us.
