Drew Barker (official thread)

I wonder with all the love he's getting from some of these sec schools, if he's even still thinking about meyer and osu anymore

Doubtful. There comes a point in time in which a recruit become irreparably turned off by the lack of an offer. Reached it with Mike McCray last year as well.

More offers may delay Barker?s decision
04/04/13
by Richard Skinner

Despite Conner standout junior quarterback Drew Barker saying Tuesday on twitter that he has ?pinpointed the day,? to announce his college choice, Conner head coach Dave Trosper said it could still change, because it?s possible several college coaches who have yet to make scholarships offers will make them in the next few weeks.

Trosper said Conner will be holding its spring practices April 15-19 and April 22-25 and culminate with its spring game on April 27 and that coaches from schools who haven?t yet made offers, such as Ohio State, are expected to attend.

?The plan is after spring practice is over that Drew will make his decision, probably the first week in May, but if someone who hasn?t offered yet makes an offer, then he?s going to make an official visit there and that could push everything back and start the whole process all over again,? said Trosper.
Barker said Tuesday on twitter, ?Just had a long conversation with my parents and coach and I believe we have pinpointed the day I?m going to make my college decision!!?

He has been offered scholarships from 15 different schools, including Kentucky, Louisville, Cincinnati, South Carolina, Tennessee, Miami (Fla.), Mississippi, Mississippi State and Vanderbilt. Barker just recently returned from his third visit to South Carolina and plans to return there for the Gamecocks? spring game on April 13. He is also planning to visit Tennessee and will be at UK?s spring practices next Monday and Wednesday when Conner is on Spring Break.

I agree with you 100% that after some time a recruit does reach his "time limit" from a school.

I think Meyer and OSU might be going after the "smooth guy at the bar" routine. The guys that usually hamper a girl for dances and drinks right away while making a scene to impress his buddies are usually the ones that get shot down. The guy who hangs back, watches, and plays it cool, waiting for the right time to strike is the lucky one at the end of the night.

We will see if this style works on Barker, and I hope it does.

The relatively optimistic reports this spring on JT Barrett (mostly off the field in regard to his intangibles) and Cardale Jones (showing pretty well on the field this spring) may take a little of the pressure off the staff in terms of being desperate to add depth at QB.

I think they definitely want to add a QB in this class, but it wouldn't necessarily be the end of the world if they do not, as long as they added a great one in 2015. And not taking anyone in 2014 would pretty much guarantee a top guy in 2015.

Conner QB Barker enjoying attention from Kentucky, other schools
April 12, 2013|By LARRY VAUGHT | [email protected]

If the recruiting pressure is bothering Conner quarterback Drew Barker, it doesn?t show. If anything, this has been what he?s wanted for years.

Barker is not only Kentucky?s top-ranked recruit, but he?s regarded as one of the nation?s best prep quarterbacks. He?s being heavily courted by South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier, a quarterback guru, along with Tennessee coach Butch Jones, who offered Barker a scholarship when he was the coach at Cincinnati.

Kentucky? Well, he?s simply the No. 1 target for offensive coordinator Neal Brown.

?I kind of always wanted it to be like this with all this recruiting. That?s why I was trying to get my name out like I was a few years ago when nobody knew me,? Barker said. ?Sometimes it gets tiring. Not the schools or coaches, but every time you visit a bunch of people are calling you to ask about it. That is probably one thing that there is a little too much of, and I would like a break from that. But I?ve just tried to embrace it all. It?s always been a dream and goal to be in this position.?

Barker was at Kentucky?s practice Monday and was expected to be back again today. He?s staying in Lexington tonight and Saturday night not only to see the Blue-White game, but to evaluate other parts of the UK program, just as he did on two-night unofficial visits to South Carolina and Tennessee.

?I want to make sure I give everybody a fair shot,? he said. ?I will probably make my college choice the first part of May. I am about 95 percent sure that is when it will be.?

Vaught's Views: Conner quarterback Drew Barker still plans early May decision for college choice
April 22, 2013|By LARRY VAUGHT | [email protected]

He?s still trying to ?soak in the once in a lifetime experience? of being a national recruit, but Conner quarterback Drew Barker said Sunday he still plans to stick with his original timeline to make a college choice in the next few weeks.

He?s visited Kentucky, South Carolina and Tennessee this spring and likely will not take any other visits before probably deciding which of those three schools is right for him.

?I would like to get this over probably in early May,? said Barker. ?I just have to sit down with my parents and see which school feels 100 percent right to me and them.?

He says his plan is not to choose a school based solely on the coaches.

?If you go solely on the coach and then he leaves, you are stuck,? Barker said.

Both Kentucky (Mark Stoops) and Tennessee (Butch Jones) have new coaches. Just a few months ago Jones was recruiting Barker for Cincinnati before he got the Tennessee job after the 2012 season ended.

?I am looking at the people around the school. You just kind of have a feel for if you like it or not. Some places immediately turn you off and some you really, really like. It?s kind of hard to explain, which is what makes it such a tough decision,? Barker said.

He?s getting plenty of help. Obviously, Kentucky has a lot of fans in his area that know him and his parents. However, Ohio high school juniors are also doing their best to sway him. Three who have committed to UK ? receiver Thaddeus Snodgrass, running back Mikel Horton and linebacker Dorian Hendrix ? have been in touch through social media. So has tight end Darryl Long, who could commit this week, and a few others who seem to be UK leans.

?They text and tweet me,? Barker said. ?Kentucky has taken over Ohio.?

Of course this is my guy, so I am REALLY hoping an offer is coming. I personally think Drew is an ideal fit for our offense, a born leader that will bring many intangibles on top of his ability, and I think he will go to work recruiting for us. His film shows he can make all the throws and I like the improvement he has shown...I don't think he is anywhere near maxing out his potential. I don't think it is out of the question to take Drew and leave the door open on Watson should he reconsider...Watson is a guy you take regardless. Generally most QBs are off the board by summer's end and you typically do not see QBs get flipped, so I would like to see this happen.
