DT Jashon Cornell (Official Thread)

Wonder if Jashon gets a look rotating out at DE? The keys to watch in spring are the health/progression of Malik Barrow, see if Haskell can take the next step and how the new guys like Taron and Tommy look. Plus you have a guy a few years removed from HS in Jackson coming in. If there is promise in some of that then I’d love to see that. Jashon has had some quality reps. It’s a perfect opportunity for him to assert himself.

Jashon was not an explosive end when he first arrived and he'll remain firmly in the mix to start or be a regular contributor at DT next year, especially if Jones goes pro.

Right now the safe options at DT are:

1) Landers
2) Cornell

That's it. Sprinkle, Hill are gone. Dre'Mont might be, or could play end if needed for depth. Hamilton plays occasionally so he'll be there for depth but probably not big minutes.

they have loads of potential at the position , with a ton of young talent. I think Garrett and Jackson push for time.

They also have a lot of scheme versatility. If they can get another body or two at DE, they can sprinkle Young and Bosa inside on certain downs.

Brenton Cox was such a big loss. They'll be more than fine long term because Urban will close with someone, but they could have used his size for 2018.

Yeah. Good points. It’s also overly optimistic to think the young guys will contribute meaningfully.

Agreed about Cox. It’s a total shame to lose him. I think we get one of Oweh or Smith but it still stings. Cox would have been an immediate impact guy.

Jones returning would be huge but I’m not betting on it.

Yeah I don't see the explosiveness for Cornell to slide back out to DE. Oddly I remember Jashon lost a good bit of weight when he first got here to become faster and when that didn't work out he gained a ton of weight and slid down to DT.

Either way I'm excited for Jashon's next few seasons.

Hamilton has done a good job in his limited play.

Yeah I think you can count him among your rotation. Not sure he'd push for a starting spot but I'd be glad to be wrong.

Either way the main point was that Cornell is too valuable to move to a spot where he fits poorly

Hopefully Tyler Friday comes on board. He would bring some nice versatility
