I can see your point from the perspective of a high school player. "Why should I play for Luke Fickell when I can play for Nick Saban". It is one thing for Luke to recruit players and sell Tressel as a head coach, it is another thing for him to sell himself or for Vrabel to sell Luke. I still think he will do fine.

I think that if Fickell can get 75% of Ohio's top recruits, he'll be in great shape. Most of Ohio's recruits would find it to be a dream-come-true to play at Ohio State. They're Fickell's recruits to lose. If Ohio State keeps Fickell for a couple of years, I think they'll be very happy with the result.

Watching him on the sidelines -- that same steady, no panic look that Tressell had -- not quite as animated when things go right -- i.e. fist pumping, running down the sidelines -- compare that to -- oh let's say Brother Kelly over in South Bend, or Stevie Wonder down at South Carolina.

In my imo, the rest of the season is just as vital. Win out and keep improving, it'll be hard to not give him his chance.

Since winning out means winning the division, winning the B1G title game and winning the Rose Bowl, yeah, I'd say that's sufficient grounds for a longer term contract.

It's also sufficient grounds for Big Ten Coach of the Year. :wink:

Right now, we need to see what he does with moving the team forward versus Indiana. This is a great week to continue to focus on improving the passing game, among other things. Show that unlike Tommy Tuberville that he knows how to keep his team from experiencing a let down after a big win.

Back-to-back wins against teams that were ranked in the top 20 at the time are a good foundation to build upon, and the season wraps up with games which escalate in difficulty: Indiana at home, Purdue on the road, Penn State at home, Michigan on the road, then maybe the B1G title game, and maybe maybe the Rose Bowl. It's almost like a playoff now. Get better each week, win and advance.

While that probably is true that most of them have no idea what they are talking about football wise, the people who are probably going to make the ultimate decision have given The Ohio State University in other ways and not just in football or sports in general. This is a big-time university with a big-time athletic program and must be treated as such in there is much more to it than being the football coach.

While Luke probably knows the x's and o's as well as most coaches out there he is not as well groomed public relations wise as most other guys who probably will be considered for the job. I just do not think that he presents himself very well in a public school, i.e. press conferences and may be alumni gatherings. Ohio State football is much more about money than almost anything else.

Up through the Miami game he had sort of a lost look...no such look at anytime Saturday night. He is gaining in confidence game-by-game, just as Braxton is at QB. Can't wait until The Game and see how they both perform...

Has LF always been an even-keeled individual as he has shown himself this year? I don't know why, but I always envisioned him as a fired up, in your face, rah-rah guy. I don't know why I had that perception though?
