Dwight Howard (NTTAWWT)

So now that Deron signed, does this mean dwight to the Nets can't happen? Or is there still enough space? Kind of answers my question:
UPDATE #1: The Nets’ agreement today to sign Bosnian power forward Mirza Teletovic with the full mid-level exception makes the task of acquiring Howard exponentially more difficult. The new collective bargaining agreement includes an effective hard cap, set $4 million above the tax line, for any team that uses the full mid-level exception, which is worth about $5 million per season. The Nets have now reportedly put that cap in play with the Teletovic agreement.

Even assuming Wallace accepted a back-loaded deal that will pay him only $9 million next season, the sum of 2012-13 deals for Wallace, Teletovic, Howard, Johnson and a max-level $17.2 million deal for Williams would give the Nets about $70.5 million in payroll with only five roster spots filled. The Nets, in other words, would have only $3.5 million left to fill up to seven roster spots, for a per-spot price of just over the $473,000 rookie minimum salary.

Thus it would seem extremely difficult now for the Nets to trade for Howard unless either Wallace or Williams is willing to take much less money next season (and perhaps over the course of their contracts). And the Nets’ absorbing Turkoglu or Richardson along with Howard would seem to be out of the question now. League rules will prevent the Nets from dealing Teletovic or any of their new free-agent signings for several months.

Chris Paul says hi....

Nullifying a trade is within the commissioner's authority per the CBA. Preventing players from exercising whatever leverage they have to force a trade is not.

Tell Chris Paul some of us work with CBAs all the time and understand these things.

The NBA is just a bad product on and off the court. It's difficult to watch an entire NBA Finals game, let alone watch what is happening in the offseason. How can you expect fans to be interested in the product when, for a couple of expiring contracts, a team can pick up a Joe Johnson type player?

I have no idea how the salary cap works, but my sincere hope is that the Nets have overspent enough to make it impossible for them to acquire Dwight Howard, thereby shutting him out of the only destination that he wants to go. He deserves as much.

meanwhile back in reality, the NBA sucks, it's clearly steered in a certain direction from the league offices and fan frustration (and questioning) of the league's integrity is at an all time high.

Too bad the lock out didn't cost them the entire season. Oh well, maybe next time

All I have to say is...if I ever hear a Magic fan say anything about Cavs fans when 'Bron pulled his stunt, they'll get a very long laugh followed by "How about Dwight?"

There's at least one radio station here trying to get people to donate Howard jerseys and items to burn, and a lot of the same vitriol you heard with LeBron.

Are we sure there is such a thing?

The Denver Nuggets and Philadelphia 76ers have been pulled into talks between the Orlando Magic and the Los Angeles Lakers that could ultimately put Dwight Howard in a Lakers uniform, Yahoo! Sports is reporting.
Talks have taken place this week and have "grown serious," Yahoo! said, citing league sources, although a trade is not considered imminent.
The moving parts of the four-team discussion, according to Yahoo!, would involve Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol being dealt by the Lakers
According to the website's sources, Howard and Nuggets forward Al Harrington would go to the Lakers; 76ers guard Andre Iguodala would be moved to Denver; Bynum would be dealt to Philadelphia; and Gasol and Nuggets guard Arron Afflalo would go to Orlando.
The proposed scenario also includes the Magic receiving draft picks and salary-cap relief, the sources told Yahoo.
