The Buckeyes’ defensive line took a hit today when Urban Meyer ruled redshirt sophomore defensive tackle Dylan Thompson academically ineligible at Big Ten Media Days, per Bleacher Report’s Ben Axelrod. Thompson sat out the 2014 season with a knee injury and red-shirted last year. Since Joey Bosa and Adolphus Washington left early to the NFL Draft last season, the Buckeyes hoped Thompson would contribute to the defensive line this season.

Thompson’s future with the team is uncertain for now. He joins Bri’onte Dunn as the second member of the Ohio State football team to find himself off the team for the 2017 season.

The Buckeyes now sit at 83 scholarship players for the 2017 season.
