E. Gordon Gee (President West Virginia U.)

A lot of people I've talked to think President Gee should be sent packing, along with Gene Smith..... I just wonder what the higher-ups are thinking.... but I am shocked by his apparent willingness to hitch his wagon to Gene. Could be a bad move.

As noted publically by Gee himself, the football coach has the power to fire him.

Since the NCAA slapped Gene/Gee 's hand after Urban got here, Urban should:
- fire Gee for bad oversight of compliance
- move university administration under the responsibilities of his director of football operations (calling it "student fan administration" or something)
- have his director of football operations fire Gene
- deliver a speech to students saying he wants them to have winning GPAs
- withdraw from the NCAA and tell them to deal with it
- schedule games as an independent
- fire up the tOSU channel on Skype

Enough is enough. Go on offense. Spread it out.

I enjoyed Gee's comments about Meyer and his coaches in today's Dispatch:

?Our football program represents, with salaries and everything, one quarter of 1 percent of the university?s budget,? Gee said recently. ?It does receive an enormous amount of scrutiny and an enormous amount of interest. But I also have hired recently a dean of medicine, a dean of nursing, a dean of engineering, a dean of dentistry ? all of whom are paid among the highest in this country for what they do.
?We?re all about talent, the most talented faculty, the most talented students ? and in this instance, even though he is called a coach, Urban Meyer is a great teacher. He is going to teach on the big stage, and we are going to pay him competitively to do that, and he is going to bring great recognition to this university?s academic and athletic programs.?
Gee has long held that a football program, when used and run correctly, is a way to promote the university. The past year of NCAA investigations and scandals have done the opposite for Ohio State.
But he indicated that a new day has dawned. ?This has been my lesson in life over the past 11 months: We are going to redefine what winning means,? he said. ?It does not simply mean X?s and O?s, and wins and losses.?
For the moment, it appears to be defined by dollar signs, but Gee said to give it time.
?Yes, we are paying our coach a very heft salary,? Gee said. ?But we also are creating great expectations of him in terms of how we operate within the university framework.?

Why is this news? And at this point, hasn't ESPN forfeited the right to claim they're not biased against Ohio State.

It's not news and President Gee said it in jest, but since it's Ohio State (or the Big Ten) it (or anything negative) will always be news to ESPN, CBS Sports, NBC Sports or the like.

A suggestion would be to make a New Year's Resolution to avoid ESPN.com or CBSSports.com (College Football) at all costs. Parental Block the sites, if help is needed.

If President Gee raises money for a new hospital or new building, that's not front page news (to some).

The Polish Husaria were the premier cavalry force in Europe for a very long time.

"Yonder lies da castle of my fadder, da king."

Poor Poland, lying in between Russia and Germany, a flat plain with only rivers to separate them from the two. Without help, with no air force, little armor -- and a while taking huge stab in the back from Russia -- they managed to hold off the Blitzkrieg far longer than anyone expected, made a braver stand than anyone ever gave them credit for... including Gee.

Poland has an army? Why would they bother?

See the Polish army at the Battle of Vienna if you want to know why a large swath of Europe wasn't forced to follow the religion of Islam.

Gee is a moron in public yet again. This guy should stay behind the scenes and do his fundraising/reorganizing and STFU when a reporter asks a question.

This. At some point you would think the BoT would tell him to avoid speaking around anyone with a microphone or pen.
