An early top 25 from Andy Katz of Espn...

Some thoughts, and I know a lot is still based on whether or not guys come back or stay in the draft...

- Memphis will be good, but can they overcome the inferior competition they will go thru in conference USA to be ready for the tourney run.

- IMO Florida, GTown, UNC, tOSU, Kansas of this past year all have better teams than there will be next season.

- Wazzu at #5 is way too high, yes they are a very good team, but putting them there has them winning the pac-10 and I just don't see that.

- Same Louisville team as this past year, but they were very inconsistent, will that change next year?

- I like to see teams like MSU and Indiana looming around the top 10...

- Gonzaga with Heyvelt back should be a solid team, does anyone know if Pargo was a senior?

- Zona is too high, they will be relying on Budinger who is a very good offensive player, but doesnt get it done on the defensive end, and an incoming frosh in Bayless...

- Pitt, Oregon, A&m, Ga Tech who do they have coming back, they both lost their best players...

- And Davidson and SIU ahead of us?:!

- I just don't see us not being in the top 25...We are going to have a front line that is going to be very hard to matchup up...Hunter, Twig, KK, Madsen, Lauderdale...Then we are going to have a senior PG, and some young, but very solid wings in Diebler and Turner to go along with Lighty...

plus we've got Matta, who has produced top 25 teams with much less talent than we will have next year

unranked? that's rediculous.

Fortunately this is basketball we're talkin about and not football. Although it can be discouraging to be ranked low (or not ranked) as long as you win games when you have to, you can still a successful season if you're not ranked highly going into the end of the season (unlike football, in which hype and rankings play a huge part of what happens in a team's post season).

I know Florida lost a lot too, but both finals teams not ranked? Crazy. But, as Omahabeef pointed out, this really has little to nothing to do with anything. Katz is looking for shock value at this point.

We don't return any players that averaged double figures last year. We are not bringing in a Conley and Oden, regardless of how talented Koufos and Diebler are. It's not unreasonable for someone like Katz to think that this team is not top 25 material right now.

It's completely unreasonable to not rank this team in the top 25.....it reaks of a journalist who hasn't done his homework IMO....has he/they not seen the talent coming in? Did he not see Hunter or Butler last year? Does he not realize Koufos in 7"2

Andy Katz lost a lot of credibility in my book

Saying it's unreasonable means that there is no logic behind it. You can disagree, but it's not ridiculous to realize that Koufos is not Oden - not close. And we have no demonstrable go-to guy. Next year's team is unknown, and I for one, don't blame Katz for recognizing that fact.

Yeah but many would argue that Lighy was our mvp in the Tennessee game, and had a great tournament...With an increase in minutes, it should be obvious to anyone that he is goign to be good...

Then throw in Butler who has been a cog for 3 years now, the fact that we bring 5 guys 6'9'' and above with one being able to step out and cause all kinds of match up problems...Then throw in the Diebler and Turner, who while not McDonald's all americans have had successful high school careers, have shut down guys like Derrick Rose who he mentions in his write up and Diebler who can shoot it from anywhere in the arena...

I would have no problem if the teams were no brainers above us, but look at some of the teams ahead of us, and they have no business being ahead of us...

I'll answer for Oregon. They have 4 starters returning plus a couple key back-ups. The only losses are Brooks(graduation) and Oguchi(transfer).

The Bucks not being in the top 25 doesn't make sense to me. Thad Matta has always coached overachieving teams, including last year, IMO. He's won with little talent, little depth, and little experience before. We'll be right in the hunt for another Big-10 Championship.

I will admit that I am not as familar with Oregon, but I did know that Brooks was the stir to the drink and his lose will hurt...

BTW would you put us above or behind Oregon?

Brooks is definitely a huge loss(was underrated all season, IMO). The Ducks will take a step back but still be very solid and will be a Pac-10 threat.

I'd rank us ahead of UO. Matta always overachieves while Kent tends to underachieve.
