Mattison retires > Ohio State hires Corey Raymond > Elias Ricks transfers to Ohio State.

I’m not saying it will happen, but this almost has to be the primary source of the smoke with Ricks, right?

And if Ohio State does hire Raymond, the chances of Ricks following goes through to roof.

corey ain’t going anywhere.
dude is LSU through and through.

Fact or Fiction: Elias Ricks will leave LSU

1. Elias Ricks will leave LSU.

Farrell’s take: FICTION. I just can’t believe this will happen. Why? Because it makes no sense. The rumors about

Elias Ricks looking around and thinking about the transfer portal are 100 percent true, but why would he leave Baton Rouge? Ricks' family moved there. He’s being coached by Corey Raymond, a great DB coach, and he had an amazing freshman season. Ohio State or other programs may look attractive and all but LSU is arguably DBU. This is a head-scratcher. I think he stays in the end.

Gorney’s take: FICTION. This remains a fluid situation and there is a very good chance Ricks stays at LSU. He could build off a phenomenal freshman season, he has great coaches there and he’s playing in the SEC, the biggest stage in college football.

But I’ve now heard from multiple sources that Ricks has his eye on Ohio State and is seriously considering a portal move. The Buckeyes really coveted Ricks in high school and tried to flip him for months without being successful. They were the most aggressive team late in his recruitment.

Ricks said Wednesday that he’s at LSU and worried about LSU, basically denying any transfer rumors. I also heard from another solid source that he believes in the end Ricks stays in Baton Rouge. At this point, I believe them.

Yeah, we’ve been through this before. Certainly seems worth exploring if you’re Ohio State, though. At the very least Raymond can get another raise out of it.

yeah i don’t blame others for pursuing him.
outside of last year, DBs have been amazing under him.

but dude played here under Arnaparger and Archer.
and has coached under Miles and now O.

i don’t think he has any intentions of leaving the program.

The only angle I could see potentially working is a promotion to Co-DC at Ohio State.

LSU swung and missed at three DC candidates and is now on their fourth without even giving him a look (seemingly).

Feels like you could angle that in a “they’re disrespecting and taking you for granted” way if Raymond is receptive to that.

3?

Freeman, Nielsen.....
who am i missing?

and i honestly don’t think he wants to be a DC.
Jimbo made a run at him last year (may have been year before) with a co-DC tag and stupid money. And he turned him down.

Raymond predates Jimbo as a player, but was on the ‘06 staff with him, so they know each other.

“Swung” might not have been the correct terminology... but seriously “looked at” I guess would be more accurate.

The Tigers then turned their attention to Mississippi State defensive coordinator Zach Arnett.

Arnett interviewed with Ed Orgeron, but the Bulldogs defenisve coordinator was deemed not a good fit at LSU.
