Much like the Celtics, Heat, and the Knicks, ESPN recognizes that three is better than one, so brings in the Poynter Institute to review content across all platforms.

Poynter Institute: Meet the new ombudsmen, not exactly the same as the old ombudsman. The journalism institute has been hired to review ESPN content across all platforms and publicly comment on ESPN's efforts. Faculty members (there are three assigned to ESPN) will post monthly columns (and other pieces as issues arise) on ESPN.com. This partnership offers great potential given Poynter's journalistic bona fides and the caliber of its faculty.

What remains unanswered is how an organization with little sports background handles sport-specific issues that arise within Bristol Land. Click here for an SI.com Q&A with Poynter president Karen Dunlap and ethics head Kelly McBride, the faculty member charged with writing the initial critiques.

Off topic, but the fourth point in the SI Media Power List is the note that Jay Bilas is now on Twitter. If you don't follow him, you should. He's flippin' hysterical.

Back on topic, read further and there is a revelation that some ESPN on-air talent is on the payroll of Nike. Maybe Herbie will relocate to Oregon?

His quip about how Bob Knight would only need four characters to express his thoughts instead of 140 was pretty funny.

ESPN hands down new analyst endorsement policy today. Over 1000 ESPN employees, from radio, TV, play-by-play, color commentary, reporters, &c will have their endorsement interests listed on ESPN.com beginning next Monday.

http://frontrow.espn.go.com/2011/04/endorsement-policy/#more-2641

After some recent fair public criticism focused on select ESPN commentators and their endorsement relationships, we determined to closely examine all aspects of our policies in this area. The reality is we are creating policies applicable to approximately 1,000 ESPN commentators, such as on-air TV and radio hosts, play-by-play commentators, analysts, reporters and columnists. The result is these updated guidelines, available by clicking here, that are being distributed today to ESPN commentators and senior content staff.

ESPN's relationship with sports fans is critical and this document focuses on protecting the integrity of that relationship. We are asking all recipients to recognize that this document will never be a finished work. The world will evolve and these guidelines will have to evolve with it.

Cont'd ...

ESPN has a plan to become the source for college football at the expense of Ohio State/Big Ten Network/Big Ten. They believe it's in their interest to promote the "superiority" of their product.
Tressel is being railroaded by the media with ESPN leading the way.

When are Ohio State/Big Ten fans going to "push back"?
