Explorations in what grinds OhioState001's gears

Their recruiting has been bottom of the B1G since about 2008. Outside of a nice little run by the Zooker from 2005-08 (with a HUGE assist to Mike Locksley), they've recruited like [Mark May]. It's no coincidence they stopped landing 4 and the occasional.5 star kids when Locksley left. Recruiting is their single biggest issue. They bleed the top IL kids to.the other Midwestern powers, and rely on FL kids that the SEC/FSU/Cryami pass on and the detritus left over in the Midwest. They've been reeling in MAC recruiting classes since 2009.

Look at this year's commits. Either Lovie just can't be bothered to try to recruit them, or top kids ain't buying what he's selling.

Their recruiting is so pathetic, that their boards are full of posters drooling over this kid's arrival next year...a low 3 star qb, the #1145 player in the 247 composite...the #27 player, in Illinois.

Illinois needs to accept what they are and roll the dice on a bright young FCS coach or an innovative coordinator. They can't win by trying to slug it out with the rest of the B1G when they've been a dead program for a decade.

Just wait. You'll see.

Which makes me wonder, what exactly are the pollsters basing their rankings on? Not really saying we aren't where we should be...but what makes Wisconsin a #10 team and VA Tech a #12 team? Same record and Tech beat a ranked team at the time.

early polls and rankings are always bad and very seldom accurate..a la Georgia in the preseason top-5 every year for some ridiculous reason. there's major bias for big programs from people that are better media members than they are analysts. i don't pay any attention to rankings until at least halfway through the season when we've had a couple conference games to see how everyone performs against teams that know their tendencies..too much noise before then.

Right. I was really just expressing my frustration about the fact the rankings have more to do with TV ratings than anything of substance.
