F Marc Loving (Agua Caliente Clippers of Ontario - NBA G-League)

The only high school player currently committed to play for the Buckeyes is rising junior Marc Loving of Toledo, who?s been committed since his freshman year at St. John?s High School. Loving was one of 80 nationwide prospects ? just four from Ohio ? who competed in LeBron?s Skills Academy last week. Loving said he found himself whispering ?Ohio State? to a few friends and camp-mates, but he didn?t want to name names or put any undue pressure on them.

?It?s the biggest college in the country,? Loving said. ?It?s a great coaching staff full of good people, class acts and good basketball people. There?s a lot to sell there, a lot to like.?

What it comes down to, often, is these young players’ allegiance to themselves – and their lifelong goals to reach the NBA. It’s on Matta and his staff to keep winning and keep selling what else Ohio State can offer as well.

“For me, playing at Ohio State is a lifelong dream,” Loving said. “It might not be that for other guys, but there’s a lot to love about it and a lot of good things going. I’m excited.”

Loving Prospers, Waits For Help
July 14, 2011

A year ago at this time, Shannon Scott was the only high school prospect who was firmly committed to the Ohio State basketball program.

?I feel lonely,? Scott joked while at the LeBron James Skills Academy last summer.

Scott ended up getting some buddies, though. OSU head coach Thad Matta lured in four other prep stars to join the slick point guard in the 2010 recruiting class that signed letters-of-intent in November He even accepted the transfer of big man Evan Ravenel from Boston College.

Now it?s time to look beyond. Matta and his assistants ? Jeff Boals, Dave Dickerson and the newly hired Chris Jent, who replaces the departed Brandon Miller ? are zeroing in on the top talents in the 2012 class and are right in the mix for some of the best senior-to-be post players in the country.

And they also would like to stay on top of 2013 recruits and eventually double or triple that class since, at the moment, it includes only 6-8 forward Marc Loving of Toledo St. John?s.

The top junior-to-be in Ohio and one of premier talents in the Midwest, Loving was in Scott?s familiar position of a year ago while he participated in this year?s version of the Skills Academy, which was just held last week in Akron. And while Loving is quiet and mild-mannered, he made sure to take advantage of his time around other top prospects and sell them on Ohio State.

When asked if he was working anyone at the camp in Akron, which is Nike?s top event, Loving said, ?Yeah, but I won?t say any names. (Ohio State) is one of the biggest college campuses in the U.S. It?s definitely a place I?d like to see some other players be.?

Made it to a St John's scrimmage versus Romulus (MI) while I was home for the break. Roster had him listed at 6'8" and 210, so he's gained a little bit of weight... and it showed. He was being triple teamed all night, and he was still hitting baskets like a SG, distributing the ball like a PG, and getting boards like a SF. I got there late, but I had him down for at least 15 in the 2nd half alone, and that's against one of the best teams in Michigan. The biggest difference that I noticed from seeing him fade last year is that he showed a lot more heart and willpower on the court. He was being vocal and a leader throughout the night. He is a great get for the program. If he improves like he did from last year to this year, his potential is truly limitless.

Always liked his skill set, just wondered what position he would fit at athletically. He's got the skills of a 2/3, but can he guard either of those positions?

McLovin might just be the perfect Matta-4.

At 6'8"/225 by the time he arrives on campus, and with that shot, could be a great fit.

If not, SF would be my best guess.

I kinda always thought he looked like he would end up a 4 here, just wasn't sure where he would fit best on the defensive end.

FWIW, Romulus isn't just one of the better teams in MI, MaxPreps has them ranked in the top 25 nationally.
