Football season is nigh.

Urban Meyer gave the formal date for the start of Ohio State's fall camp when he addressed the press at Big Ten media days. The Buckeyes will take the practice field on August 3.

Ohio State football: Urban Meyer likes what he sees as Buckeyes prepare for camp

The Ohio State football team’s fall camp begins in 10 days, and Urban Meyer has a pretty good feel for the team he’ll have in 2018.

A lot of familiar faces will be gone — the OSU coach professed his love for J.T. Barrett again — but the roster will be deep and gifted.

“Very talented team,” Meyer said Tuesday at Big Ten media days. “Very good people. Guys have worked hard.”

Lately it seems UFM has been complimentary of his team going into camp. Anyone else notice this?

BTW, I love seeing this thread. I've learned to love this time of year for the following reasons.

1. On the cusp of football season so you can still remain uber confident in your team
2. Fall is right around the corner with Halloween/Thanksgiving/Xmas following
3. I am still 1-3 months away from my annual season meltdown claiming everything's broke and how the sky is falling

I'm never really confident until the first couple games are in... win or lose... and then i can settle in.
In the back of my mind there's always the possibility that teams are paper tigers... so few college programs have consistently punched out 10win seasons like Ohio State.

USC and Texas faded. Bama was nothing before Saban. Clemson or OU maybe?

Who will get the most chatter among non starters returning from last year or guys who played some minutes but nothing major?

My pick is Pete Werner.

I'll bite. I think Werner is a great pick, especially with Borland out to start the year. Maybe its obvious, but on the defensive side of the ball I would go with Chase Young or Pryor. I see both starting and shining this year. I think Browning will also explode onto the scene, but Borland is so good that I think they might split time once he is healthy. On the offensive side, the obvious answer is Haskins...so to not be boring, I will go with Luke Farrell, it's his time to shine. Also might through out Josh Myers if the light turns on in fall camp and the center spot is open.

I'll go with another (and we'll probably have a separate thread for this): Most chatter for incoming freshman that did not enroll early? On the defensive side of the ball, my pick is Taron Vincent...might be in a fight to get PT, but the talent will be obvious. Followed closely by Terjada Mitchell, he is college ready and has a great understanding of the game, coaches should love him right away. On the offensive side of the ball, I think it may be an easy call with Jeremy Ruckert...UFM has said he is the best TE he's recruited and that he will play immediately....I see him rotating in with the starters right away, just too much talent. Next up is Jaelen Gill.
