Now that we are in the off-season, how about a new thread dedicated to the one play that characterizes Ohio State football to you.
For me, it is a visual image of a Dispatch front page with Paul Warfield catching a pass from Unverferth for the winning TD in the 1963 edition of The Game.
This version of the Game stands out for me for a couple of reasons. One is this catch. The other is that John Kennedy had been assasinated a week before and the game was postponed until the funeral had been conducted. The Game took on special significance.
I haven't seen the picture of Warfield's catch since that time and I was just 9 years old, but the catch is indelibly etched in my mind in all its black and white glory...in my memory it was a feet in the air acrobatic catch that allowed us to come from behind and win. UM were stunned, who expected Woody to pass?
I search the internet from time to time trying to find that image but so far no luck. Perhaps that is why it burns so indelibly in my mind still to this day?
With all due respect to all of the other greats who have donned the scarlet and gray, Warfield remains my favorite all-time player and this play defines Ohio State football for me better than any other play I can remember.
