Hey Mike, I'm looking at getting a new camera, but i'm not looking to spend over 250. Any suggestions or experience with:

Nikon Coolshot L810

Canon Powershot Elph 310 HS

I have three kids, and one on the way, so I'm looking for something that is going to be able to take good indoor shots, and something that can capture moving targets without that blurred effect.

Any advice, or suggestion, would be much appreciated. Also, where's the best place to purchase? I'm leery about ordering something like this over the Internet.

I welcome all suggestions as well, if you've got the knowledge.

Of the two you've listed, I would go with the Canon. There may be better out there, but I actually just got back from more shooting so am working on processing and clearing out my Lightroom library at the moment. I'll see if I can find something comparable later.

As for where to buy...most people don't like it, but I tend to get stuff like small point and shoot cameras at Best Buy. It may be to your advantage though to go play with what they have in the store, figure out what you like, and then go to B&H Photo online and order from them, or the BP linked Amazon store. I'm a fan of B&H when it comes to my photo gear (never buy a memory card in a physical store, buy them online, I got an 8GB Compact Flash card for under $20 from B&H, same card was almost $50 in stores here), and will be buying my next lens from them, once I have the money in the bank.

It looks like a really good camera in the P&S category, I'd say you're definitely getting your money's worth there. But like I said, play around with display cameras, you may find you don't like one of the ones that look good online for whatever reason. My biggest issue with P&S cameras is the interface. I've played with some highly rated/hyped ones that ended up having a horrible interface for me.

can you explain what you mean by "interface?"

In other words, how you select options on the camera, switch modes/scenes, and access menus. I include all the buttons/knobs as well as the menu styles and steps to get to any feature/option on the camera in my view of the interface. If I don't like the size/layout/feel of the buttons, that's a strike. If certain things are hard to access, another strike, etc.

Sorry all... trying to size these well but the first two just aren't working right and are definitely making the photos look worse. I'll take any help I can get!

Looking across the Eureka Valley from the Eureka Dunes towards the Saline Range. My camera broke this evening... too much dirt and sand particles in it from my trips.

Yeah, I didn't take this... but I am in it. The top of Mt. Rainier from a few years back. Yes, this is the true summit though the crest behind looks taller.
