FB/TE Brandon Smith (official thread)

Not sure that he's excelling with blocking right now (I believe that he got drove back into Pryor on Pryor's bomb to Hartline) but if he holds his ground and continues to catch balls out of the backfield, that's a major dimension for this offense. Keep it up.

That was BEANIE who picked up the blitz.

I think Brandon has done an excellent job with blocking as a TE and FB. He has done a great job running routes and catching the ball as well. Brandon has to be one of the biggest surprises of the year, imo.

I don't know about his potential as a pro, but he's been a pretty consistent cog in an inconsistent offensive machine. He's thrown some really nice blocks that have sprung some big gains, he's been an excellent safety valve for Pryor, he's had some throws his way that were designed for him, and I believe he has yet to drop a ball. He hasn't fulfilled every block he's thrown, but that couldn't be expected from any 1st year FB, starting or not.

Brandon's pretty easily my surprise player of the year thus far with Shaun Lane #2. Preseason, fullback was our biggest weakness/need on the team and Brandon has turned it into a position we no longer have to worry about for the rest of the year (barring any potential injuries). His experience with catching the ball has turned him into an under-the-radar threat that could be invaluable in a must-convert 3rd or 4th down later on in the season.

The lowdown: The 6-2, 251-pound senior from Euclid High was Ohio State's leading receiver Saturday, catching three passes for 37 yards against Michigan State. Play ing fullback for the first time, the former linebacker and tight end had eight career catches for 60 yards entering the season and this season has seven grabs for 72.
Best concert I've been to: "Probably a high school concert, I think it was Jay-Z and 50 Cent. It was a summer jam thing my father took us to. My father listens to everything, I think, except for country and rock 'n' roll."

I just want to say that Brandon Smith has been playing his ass off this season. I wish that we coud instil BS's work ethic into everyone on the team. I just love seeing guys putting forth full effort. B. Smith has done everything that you could ask of him. All unhearalded team: B. Smith, J. Hines, S. Lane, E. Sabino, A. Spittler. I saute you!

Kudos again to Brandon Smith. He made another nice catch on an outlet pass from TP. However, his best play of the game was the key block that kept a defender away from TP along the sidelines when Nichol caught his TD pass!!

Way to go Brandon!!

Departing seniors were asked about their experience at tOSU.

Brandon Smith

Fullback

Euclid, Ohio | Age: 22

Parting thought: "What makes the experience great are the teammates, the people you meet, the classmates. You have the opportunity to meet tons and tons of people. And the guys in the locker room, how much time we spend together, I had a great time with them so far. My teammates, you never know where you'll end up, and that's definitely what I'll miss the most."
