What happened to my ¤cash?
Not sure, but I witnessed a near-tragedy today and, by some definitions, a miracle. Was waiting inside the entrance to Kroger's for my ride. A young mother pushed her overflowing cart through the doors and stopped to adjust something. Her golden-haired toddler (maybe 2) started to jog toward the door. "Kailen, stop!" she called and the little one froze.

The mom turned to heave the heavy cart around and, at the same time, the little one unfroze and darted through the open doors. I was seated yards away and could only watch through the window. The mom instantly began running and through the window I saw 1) little Kailen dashing across the sidewalk to the curb at the edge of the inside lane of the parking lot and 2) an enormous silver SUV rolling forward, with no sign of braking or slowing down. At the same moment I felt a surge of electricity, thinking one more second and the tiny child is going to be in front of the wheels of the vehicle--suddenly, seemingly out of nowhere, a burly man with a dark beard was grabbing the child under its arms and, smiling broadly, swung the child around and into its mother's arms. She came back inside and talked to her baby about what had happened.

Only after a few minutes did it occur to me that the man had not come inside, nor had I seen him walk away. Neither had I noticed him standing there until the instant he was swooping the child up. I don't frequently attribute supernatural explanations to events in the world, but this one I'm not so sure about. Especially considering the unusual surge of energy I felt just before he intervened. Take it for what you will. Even if he didn't actually materialize, what convolutions of fate were required for him to be standing in that exact spot at that exact moment, and to also be aware enough to notice what was about to happen and have the presence of mind to act? In this too frequently dark world, if it wasn't a miracle, it was close enough to one for me. I'll take it.
