FL RB Keith Byars II (Purdue Signee)

I would think with the small numbers we are probably only looking at the 2 who verballed. That leave Byars and Shell out IMHO. This will be a smaller more selective class.

We have already verbally offered Shell, so I think they would take him in a heartbeat if he wanted to come.

Running back Keith Byars II from Boca Raton, Fla., just got here along with his father. Ohio State, Miami, Alabama, Florida, Virginia Tech and Tennessee are showing the most early interest.

Ohio State is the clear, absolute No. 1 team for Byars, who had 712 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns this past season.

"I've talked to them a couple times," Byars said of Ohio State. "I went up to the camp this summer. I loved it."

Byars said he'll look at his options and is open to every school. Ohio State holds the edge though.

i say we take byars and rushel shell, and have a 4 way RB competition

Competition is a great thing, but we're looking at somewhere around 14 scholarships for the '12 class right now. I'm sure that number will grow in the next two years, but for the sake of argument, that would leave us with 10 spots for the other positions. Considering the DL haul we're hoping to pull in alone (I'd guess at least 4 of Washington, Wormley, Pittman, McMullen, Schutt, Strobel, Lewis), that doesn't leave us with much wiggle room. Personally, I'd say leave the RB situation as is - we have Ball and Dunn, and Shell has his offer. If he accepts, all the better. If not, we use the spot for another position. (The trenches are the only positions where I'd happily give any number of schollies in any year, but those are also positions that claim 9 of the 22 starting spots)

In a larger class I say we take him but with potentially only 14 slots left, we have other needs than running back.

And...the odd thing is I really have not seen much of an evaluation on him yet. He has the name and I do not doubt he is good, but just how good is he?

I'm sure he's quite talented, and I have that same question, but does it really matter when we're already 5 deep(including Boom IF he comes back) at RB, and we have 2 more in the fold for 2012? If this kid is a monster at another position(say LB, or S) then we should definitely go after him. But I honestly don't see where he would fit. Our RB depth is just ridiculous

Father and son hit the football field
By: Jason Pugh

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Keith Byars II fell in love with football at a very young age.

"I first new that's what I wanted to do when I played flag football and my dad was coaching" he says. "I just loved it right away."

His father Keith Byars, was a standout running back at Ohio State, and later went on to be a first round NFL draft pick. This fall, Byars will enter his third season as head coach at Boca Raton High School, where his son is the schools starting running back.

"I've seen all the horror stories of dad's coaching their sons and the plus and minuses," says Byars. "But I taught him at an early age that if I'm going to coach you, I'm going to coach you right. We're going to do it fundamentally correct."

Byars can't help but to see himself as a player when coaching his son. A simple game has strengthened their relationship throughout the years.

"It's great because he's a parent outside the football field, but on the football field he's just my coach," says Keith Byars II. "So it's just like having any other coach."

Next season, Keith Byars II will be one of many highly recruited seniors from this area. He already has numerous offers from division one schools.

"I'm going to enjoy these final four years of having him here in high school and then he'll go off to college to bigger and better things," says Byars.

Until then, they'll continue to cherish the moments they have together on and off the football field.
