I wondered if he would be interested, being the hometown and all. But, I didn't think he would take the step down to a lower division. I figured if he didn't get an offer from an FBS school this year, he'd take the year off and land somewhere next year. However, he'd fit nicely (I think) at YSU, and the low salary shouldn't be an issue with Nebraska paying out his contract. I would love it, but really wonder if it's true. Why would he issue such a strong denial when he is not currently employed?

He may not get a head coaching gig at a decent FBS program for a while, so might as well get one at an FCS powerhouse, in his hometown no less. If he were to do as well at YSU as he should (several national titles, players getting drafted, etc.) he'd be a relatively hot commodity...

The problem was UNL wasn't a "top 5 winningest D1 school" under his leadership...thus his no longer working there. While going down into the FCS ranks on the surface seems like a big step down, special circumstances here (hometown school, powerhouse football program, university president who will provide all the support needed) makes it not such a big step down. With the money he'll be getting from UNL for a while, plus the fact that his salary as YSU head coach would be in the ballpark of a DC at a major program, makes the move pretty attractive.

One thing to keep in mind is that Corn is on the hook for $7mil ... until Pelini finds another job, then it's reduced.
Taking his time to find an FBS job while making $150k/month through 2017 season is probably a strong consideration.
