SIDE SALAD - Food For Lack Of Thought: FUN WITH LABELS AT THE ASIAN MARKET

Who doesn't love Beef Aorta? I hear it's great with sweet BBQ sauce.

In a lot of countries, everything on a meat animal is eaten, IF a meat animal is even available. America is notorious for "wasting" a lot of a given animal.

A good show on the food network is "Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern." He travels around the world sampling indigenous dishes. It's amazing how creative people can be to get protein into their diets.

Another reason I am glad to live in America.

Its a muscle. Just like any other meat on the deer.

I was referring more to the fact that he didn't think the aorta sounded that bad, but I am not interested in eating any kind of heart either. I realize it is a right of passage kind of thing for hunters, and that's all fine, but not something I will ever want to do.

I thought it was the liver that was the "rite of passage." Maybe that was just a "choice" piece of meat that by rights went to the hunter that had the kill shot. Seem to remember some show that featured Native American history...damn my faulty memory banks!

It really depends on who you are hunting with. I know of some groundhog hunters who only eat the penis. :wink2:

Not in my family. It just tastes good and has a smoother texture than regular meat. Next time I'm at the Asian market, I'll see if they have some aorta.
