G/F Evan "The Villain" Turner (2010 Naismith Winner)

How about the fact it was 6/29/05 when Oden and Conley announced?

I can only imagine the turmoil on the Illinois boards...it must be in full on Wake-Forrest-circa-June-of-2005 meltdown mode right now.

I went over there and Wake was much worse. Not much OSU bashing if any. The only comments about OSU are either amazement (since when did OSU become UNC?), or just some hatred that OSU is doing so well. No real bad mouthing unlike the Wake board.

Most of it's anger at their own team, and other posters talking them off the ledge.

Although this post is classic...

Perfect time to debut the new sig. We're moving to DefCon 2...

<!--EZCODE UNDERLINE START-->IB Meltdown Level<!--EZCODE UNDERLINE END-->
DEFCON 5: All is well. Dreams of final fours and BCS bowls fill our heads.
DEFCON 4: Things are pretty good, if BB player X and FB player Y would hurry up and sign.
DEFCON 3: I'm not saying the sky is falling, but I just heard a loud thud.
<!--EZCODE BOLD START-->DEFCON 2<!--EZCODE BOLD END-->: Major concern. Nightmares of NITs and "Let them score".
DEFCON 1: Absolute total meltdown. Women and children run and hide on the coupon board.

Are we about to witness one of the greatest periods in tOSU basketball because i think we are.
Talent for the future:

04 = 0 five, 2 four stars.
06 = 3 five, 2 four stars.
07 = 1 five, 3 four stars. (possible: Mayo 5* or Turner 4*)
08 = 2 five, . (possible: Gates 5*, Crater 4*, Roe 4*)

- Crater and Roe may end up as 5*s soon.

(both 05 recruits transferred (bell, mayes))

If this is as it appears - an in state kid jumping because he was afraid of being shut out at OSU even though an Illinois ship wouls still be available - it is very tough for the Illinois fans. You can spin it however you want but it is tough to argue kids are not viewing OSU as the superior program right now.

Class of 2007 St. Joseph High School Star Evan Turner Is Off The Board! Head Coach Thad Matta And The Ohio State Buckeyes Score Yet Another Recruiting Coup

Today, Class of 2007 St. Joseph High School star Evan Turner gave a verbal commitment to play his college basketball for head coach Thad Matta, and the Ohio State Buckeyes. Turner, who plays on the summer basketball circuit with the Illinois Wolves, has emerged as one of the top 2007 basketball prospects in the United States.

Turner, who stands 6-6, currently ranks among the Top 25 Class of 2007 prospects in the country. He is a dazzling combination of both size and versatility. Last season, at St. Joseph High School, Turner teamed with Jon Peoples (Notre Dame) and fellow 2007 star Demetri McCamey to form the top trio in the state of Illinois.

Turner's biggest strength is his versatility on the basketball court. A "Scottie Pippen" type of player, Turner routinely shifts between the 1, 2 and 3 slots on the basketball court.

Turner's selection of Ohio State ends a recruiting frenzy that saw Turner field scholarship offers from better than 15 other high-major programs including DePaul, Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, Wake Forest and Indiana to name a few. He spent a good portion of today calling the head coaches of the other programs involved in his recruitment.

Turner becomes the third member of the Illinois Wolves program to make a verbal commitment. 6-8 post Carlton Fay (Putnam County) is verballed to Chris Lowery and Southern Illinois University, and 6-0 point guard Sam Maniscalco is verballed to Jim Les and Bradley University.

Matta, and Ohio State are sizzling on the recruiting trail. The Ohio State Class of 2006 includes a trio of McDonald's All-American's in Greg Oden, Mike Conley and Daequan Cook, and highly regarded David Lighty, 6-9 Othello Hunter and 6-10 Kyle Madsen.

In addition to Turner, Ohio State's Class of 2007 includes 7-1 Kosta Koufos, 6-9 Dallas Lauderdale and 6-6 Jon Diebler. The Buckeye's also have Class of 2008 verbals from 7-0 B.J. Mullens from Columbus Ohio, and 6-3 Walter Offut from Indianapolis.

First welcome aboard Evan Turner! Glad Thad worked the magic that Matta's with you. :biggrin:

As for the Illinois meltdown and Wake - consider this.

Wake Forest now has ZERO small forwards offered on the list of available prospects currently or previously listing Wake as a potential home - that's right ZERO. :tongue2:
Barring a miracle of biblical proportions Darquavis Tucker is L'ville bound.
If V-Tech offers Dominique Sutton first they could easily take him into their fold over WF (who signaled so early their preference for someone not named Dominique). St. Joes has already offered Idris Hilliard, and other name East Coast schools are on his interest list. Below that you are (no offense intended to other kids) looking at strictly developmental prospects.

Illinois is similarly impacted by this. Evan was clearly their plan A-minus with Darquavis stating highest interest in Louisville. Now that Evan is firmly verballed to the Buckeyes they are left scrambling - though with a somewhat longer dance-card to work through.

Man, what interesting times for Buckeye athletics. Interesting indeed.

Best WF Board quote
Matta's not recruiting anymore, he's choosing.

Now that is a signature worthy quote rght there.
