G Ronald Lewis (FOS Provence Basket - France)

I realize that we cant get all of the talent but, why did he go to Bowling Green in the first place? Brookhaven is in OSU's back yard and three players that I know of are starters with D1 schools and, to me it seems like OB ignored them.

Cornely- Penn State
Lavender- (McDonalds All- America team) Oklahoma and transfered to Xavier.
Ronald Lewis- transfer from Bowling Green.

I could go on but, I am glad that we have a coach like Thad Matta that is not worried about players leaving early and going out and getting the best for the program.
raheem moss (bg then clev state)
brandon foust (oklahoma then semizzou state)
dominic jones (football minnesota)
spencer everett (wright state)

that team was a top five team nationally...

I graduated from Brookhaven and try to interact with a class or do something for the school whenever I am in Columbus for any extended period. When I was a teaching at Ohio State, I spoke to a large class about Mandela. I remember Lewis in the audience.

When I mentioned how kids in South Africa aspire to play for the national soccer team like Brookhaven kids aspire to play for the Buckeyes, I don't remember his reaction but a number of kids reacted negatively. I was really surprised.

I don't know why and neither did the principal. I think the increasing need for good grades at Ohio State may have been an issue. On the other hand, Mo Hall was a straight A student. Perhaps it was because Ohio State wasn't fawning all over Mo Hall in his senior year. Hall always wanted to play for Ohio State and didn't seem to be getting the love a lot of people in the Northland area thought he deserved from Ohio State. Maybe they just thought that Ohio State never seemed to be able to win the big games in the 1990s? I don't know.

Whatever it was, it was something that was shared by a minority, but a large minority of students at Brookhaven.

Mo Hall is currently working with kids in the Northland area and that will help. I'm guessing that Lewis will help too. Lavender wanted to transfer here as well, didn't he? So, possibly that is something of the past.

The way he's playing now, it's hard to believe Ron Lewis has ever been anything less than a star.
But he didn't even start during his senior season at Brookhaven High in Columbus. He was the team's sixth man.
Now a fifth-year senior at Ohio State, Lewis has become the main man in the Buckeyes' NCAA tournament drive.
"You just live for the moment," Lewis said. "My whole thing is, I don't want to end my college career on a loss."

Playing for a Shot.....by Ben Koo.

When Ron Lewis signed his letter of intent to play basketball for Bowling Green, his chances of playing NBA basketball were pretty much non existent. In fact Bowling Green boasts zero NBA players on their famous alumni page on Wikipedia.

No mention of Howard "Butch" Komives or Walt Piatkowski on BG's Wikipedia entry? I played in a pickup game against Piatkowski about 35 years ago, and I very rarely get a chance to mention my brief encounter on the court with an NBA player.

I'm not sure if Lavender wanted to come to Ohio State or not but if he did I know that we did not reciprocate.

Loved Ron's post game interview about the importance of this win, "First time we've been to the final four since 1960, or 1999 when they took it from us." Gotta love that attitude, that totally spells out "BUCKEYE." Here's a kid that knows the history, and can spit it right out to you. RON LEWIS to this point is the MVP of the 2007 NCAA Tournament, and I doubt that anyone else really has a claim. I'd love to see him have 2 more games of dropp'in 20 or so and win MVP of the Tourney officially. I want this Senior player to get the Kudo's he deserves, and to be straight, we need his "A" game to win it all. I got a feeling that it's gonna happen. Peace.
