2023 GA DB Kayin Lee (OSU decommit, Auburn signee)

Do people go insane every year and just forget previous years? It not the first flip on signing day and won't be the last.

It won't be the last time we missed out on people really wanted or thought we lead for a month or two before signing day.

It's way worse this year though. Lol. You got people like we are slipping to the level of like Indiana or Maryland. Losing Lee stinks, yea, but we kept pretty much everyone else, including a few high profile guys who some were worried about flipping.

This is different.

We are losing out because of money. Which is odd because we have one of the most profitable brands out there.

There's no reason for any of this.

We are one of the only big time schools not offering things up front.

Frankly I'm shocked we were top 10 with this approach.

Oh well, can't blame kids for taking the money.

NIL doesn't explain the '19 and '20 CB classes being a complete whiff at this point. We have 7 live bodies in the CB room next year as of today and 2 of them will be true freshmen. None of the others have blown anyone's hair back in a good way that I can recall. The room is a proper mess.

Assuming Auburn offered a easier path to immediate playing time as well. That team is a mess. Money is part of it yea, but not the whole thing here.

Fair enough... better address it in the portal but if I'm being honest I'd be shocked if we land the top CB.

The portal particularly seems like it'd be kids making moves for money.

No it's not. You have no proof it's NIL. It could be NIL but it could just be as easy why we missed on x throughout the years. You just have decided it's NIL so everything you see as bad further confirms that.

How many DB's did we miss out on the last few years or have flip late? Are you saying everyone of those in the future will be Money?

We don't have much depth either though so IMO this was only due to money.

He's got Hunt and Matthews in his own class to battle with, he instantly became the highest rated CB by far in Auburn's class. (their other 2 CBs were 530 and 677th overall in the composite)

Lee is a nice prospect but in recruiting terms not a elite prospect, if a kid like him can get almost assured playing time right away + the money it's a no brainer.

I think portal is more about PT and a championship run than money but who knows anything for sure at this point.

One thing I do know is they need to improve the CB position group.

This quote is telling....

OSU cornerbacks coach Tim Walton and Lee hit it off immediately, with Walton relating to Lee with his Georgia roots. Even more so, OSU's hiring of defensive quality control coach Miguel Patrick did wonders in helping OSU land Lee, as Patrick was Lee's former coach at Cedar Grove High School (Ellenwood, Georgia). Lee's recruitment the second time around was quick, as he committed to the Buckeyes in April.

But Patrick recently left OSU to become UAB's defensive line coach under new head coach Trent Dilfer, which did the Buckeyes no favors in their fight to retain Lee.
