Someone posted to Twitter the mashup of using the music from Alladin’s carpet ride (A Whole New World) with the dragon ride. It perfectly illustrated how incredibly lame that scene was.

Not trying to be a hater because I have loved the show, but I really hope the remaining 5 shows are stronger than the first one.

Since they've given themselves a Brexit countdown clock they had to establish: Jon can ride a dragon, Jon and Dany should both be suspicious of why the dragons seem to instinctively trust Jon, Jon needs to have demonstrated some degree of controlling a dragon given he can't speak Valyrian, and Jon and Dany need to have their Jon/Ygritte in a cave moment. All of this has to be laid down before the Night King arrives for the Battle of Winterfell in Ep 3.

Yes, it was dumb and the A Whole New World video was hilarious, but the sequence does a lot for four minutes of film.

What's funny is that Dany never even got such a gratuitous learning to ride a dragon flight sequence in any prior seasons. Jon's got more Hiccup in him.

As one of the creators stated in a series interview.. only Targaryens can ride a dragon... and there are three dragons...
Dany rides Drogon
Jon now rides/owns Raegel .. you can tell Raegel likes him... and when Drogon sniffed him up... he accepted Jon...
so which Targaryen is the Night King who can ride Viserion?
likely... the Night King and Jon Snow are related.. but Snow is half Targaryen and half Stark !!
How Bran fits in all this TBD

The Night King was made by Leaf and the Children of the Forest to kill the First Men (shown to Bran in a vision in Season 6).

Targeryans don’t arrive on Westeros until after the Doom of Valeryia, which occurred 1000s of years later (IIRC about 400 years before the events of the show).

If the Night King is the emigrant ancestor of any house, he’d be a Stark. Presumably none of the other houses existed.

What if the Starks and Targaryens are part of the same family tree that split at the time of the Children of the Forest and First Men.....
