Game Thread Game Ten: #1 tOSU 17, Illinois 10 (11/4/06)

Sorry about the button reference. I'm not trying to push anybody's buttons.

I think there is a difference between playing conservative and only having 20 yards of total offense in the 2nd half. That seems to be an execution problem of a conservative offense.

I believe Tressel made the right calls. Heck, we WON. I just cannot see how a rational person can look at this game and think that we did not struggle in the 2nd half.

Of course we struggled...but look at the playcalls and the lack of creativity. If that is not obviously purposeful to you, then Im not sure what else to tell you. Coaches put players in a position to succeed...JT did not do that in the second half. There was a method to the madness.

Give some credit to Illinois D in this one. I love bagging on the Zooker more than ice cream but he's building something up there. Vontae Davis impressed me for being a true freshman and Cumberland looked like he could be a keeper. Big Ten road games are a dogfight and the Fightin' Zookers had nothing to lose. Every team except for the transcendentally incredible have a tough game or off preformance in their season.

Did the overall picture really change today? The same two teams in the Big 10 are still undefeated. Those same two teams were less than stellar today. Those same two teams are still on a collision course to settle the issue. And, that particular game will still be held in Columbus.

And the cooler, and much wiser, head prevails.

Bingo Part II.

Don't want to be that guy...

But...

When you're looking down the barrel of the particular gun that we are.... especially on the road... you don't want MSU '98 to repeat itself....

We control our own destiny, and that's all that matters right now.

No way does Ill (who couldn't really move the ball on us all day) make up 17 in the 2nd half.

Did you even watch the game? Had they recovered the on-sides, they would've been about 50 yards from tying the game, and they did move the ball well on the TD scoring drive. As calm as our team is, I think it would've been brick-shitting time had Illinois recoverd it...

I could barely watch the game I was so disgusted with the 2nd half. They better get thier act together because they have now been marked as a team that can be beat. I think this game was a game that Tressel held a lot of things back. He doesn't want to show his hand before the 18th, but it was too close of a call for that today IMO.
