Game thread: Texas 40, Texas A&M 29 (Final)

Methomps, don't know if you can see this or if you are at work and can't, but this must be very reassuring. They have taken a real knock today and, in my opinion, Vince Young lost his opportunity to make a claim against Bush for Heisman.

There are only two things that will come out of this game:

1. Barring a meltdown next Saturday, Bush will win the Heisman

2. After taking 4 quarters to put away a team without its star QB, its starting RB, and with the worst pass defense in D1A, the longhorn contingent will be a lot less rowdy on the USC boards.

Texas will not play this bad should they make it to the BCS NC game. People always want to skewer USC for having bad games, saying, "Look at Texas roll through everybody." Teams have bad games. If you can make it through the season undefeated, anyone who detracts from your performances is a fool.

Texas and USC are still undefeated. Period.

Seemed that the game plan for todays game was run Vince as little as possible. No zone read, very few QB keepers. That being said, in order to have a solid game without Vince being part of the running attack, he has to be accurate through the air and he wasn't. Texas' offense lives off of opposing defenses sweating the zone read and Vince & Co. running it into the ground. Today was simple hand off & play action pass...too easy to defend. Kept the offense out of rhythm & put the defense on the field far too long. I expect to see the usual offense next week in Houston. At least I hope so. Hats off to aggy, though. They played with fire & determination and we didn't.

Methomps pretty much summed it up. Undefeated is just that.

Texas ran into a traditional "rival" (from A&M's standpoint),on enemy territory. Texas A&M probably played over their heads, but they are not without talent. The TAM qb and D played a hellava fine football game. Texas prevailed simply because they are more talented at most positions. A&M was allowed to hang around too long.

USC went through a similar game with ND, pulling it out at very end with a singular effort by fatiqued qb.

College fball is so great in this respect: The top dog is always challenged by the many "almost top dogs" and sometimes by very average dogs playing the game of their season.

WE REALLY STUNK IT UP TODAY

We were outplayed, and we were lucky they made so many mistakes. Oh well. I'm glad we had a hard game. Blowouts don't always prepare you for the tough game ahead. The ATM quarterback played HS ball close to Austin. he set all kind of records, and played a great game. Now we have to win our stupid Conference chumpionship game to face USC. Go figure.
