One of the few things I can be 100% certain of is that will never happen. The NCAA and/or FBI could come out and say JT had nothing to do with it or had to do what he did, and the media will do nothing except take a "Where there's smoke, there's fire" approach and call him "Teflon Jim" more than ever. They will not only never admit they were wrong, but will dig up or make up as much as is necessary to ensure they don't look like they were.

And TSUN fans will still smell like they bathe in an outhouse.

What is up with that BTW?

Got a PM a few days ago from a well-placed member of this board, saying Tressel may very well be patrolling the sidelines, due to an upcoming decision in the FBI investigation which would show JT indeed had to lie to the NCAA. It may just be wishful thinking of folks in the Y-town area, but weirder [Mark May] has happened before in sports...

I had heard that a few months ago as well. Nothing has happened.

Perception, right or wrong, is reality in the public world of college athletics. There is a national perception that JT was a dirty coach and ran a dirty program, and that OSU is a dirty program. That will not change in terms of JT, no matter what the FBI might say, because the fact of the matter is whether he lied or not, or had to or whatever, the kids still traded stuff for tattoos and all the rest.

Guaran-fucking-teed that if this were to indeed happen (Tressel being shown that his hand was forced), then he'd be hired back in a heartbeat and the OSU administation could stomp a mudhole in any negative press around it.

People still point to players trading stuff for tattoos even though Fickell is now the coach, so why not hire Tressel back if that perception will exist regardless of who the head coach is?

It would be great to see him exonerated, but there isn't a snowballs chance in hell he is rehired.

Yeah, I just don't see it...and besides, this is all making the grand assumption he would want to come back. Why are we making that assumption? After all, if he really didn't do anything wrong, these then become the people (Smith and gee) who threw him under the bus to save themselves. Why would he want to come back to that when he is a multi-millionaire?

 I'm not sure what is more naive, the absolute faith in rehiring such baggage or the confidence in OSU handling PR at all, let alone dominating it.

yeah, as long as haters hate, better not start fresh with a new regime. urban and others would be rebuilding and, overhauling the brand.

If that "baggage" is proven not to real, then it's no longer baggage then, is it? The question about handling any blowback is whether or not Gee and/or Smith want to, and not if they can.

People were hating on JT from day one, with his "guarantee" over Michigan (which we know it wasn't), his "tarnished" national title via the PI call (which we know was a good PI call), the $500 TS handshake, the consecutive NCG meltdowns...yadda yadda.

Here is what I don't get..

If true, why would he resign? Why wouldn't that be disclosed "hey, the FBI said I can't talk about this stuff" to Gee, Smith, the BOT, or the NCAA?

Anyways, I'm at a bar in Lincoln.. Rocking a hard on reading this stuff.. Hope it's true but the question above is what comes to my mind instantly.

No other NCAA coach had as much heat as Tressel had on him at the time. Resigning was his only option. I don't blame him a bit for doing so. Guilty or not.

Hoke would pay a million for more unearned momentum like JT being rehired

yes, it absolutely is. it wouldn't be believed, it wouldn't explain, sarniak, it wouldn't explain not sitting them for a game/qtr for the generic violation of team rules excuse, etc.

JT did what most do when, facing the ugly charade of amateur athletics. he just got caught

they've made it crystal clear that they want to grandstand at any opportunity and are quite lousy at it.

none of that put him on the hot seat. this offseason media hatred got him fired.

Saw on another site that our AD is complaining at the severity of Posey's new suspension. It's time to stop complaining, stop appealing, and accept the punishment. All this carping just looks like we're trying to avoid punishment for admitted wrongdoing.

I'm sorry, but Posey is a proven repeat offender. I'm amazed he's still on the team. Gene needs to remember that his actions reflect (poorly) on over 500,000 living OSU alumni, and the state of Ohio as a whole. He should be holding himself, the team, and the entire athletic department to a higher standard. "Exemplary" should be the norm, as far as conduct is concerned.

Edit: I read on the Posey thread that his defense may be ongoing and substantiated. If that's the case, the I retract my statements as far as he is concerned. I do still believe that GS's handling of the situation had been appallingly poor.
