Woody called Tatum the best athlete he ever coached. Hard to argue with that assessment. And the hit he put on Simpson in the Rose Bowl was a thing of beauty (and a game changer).

As a second, I'd probably have to go with Colzie, also. He single-handedly broke open a 14-10 halftime lead against Northwestern by scoring twice in the first 2 Northwestern drives to open the second half (pick 6 and punt return).
Tatum and Colzie both outstanding..and Neal was a hell of a punt returner..

Tatum. Best safety to ever play the game.

Antoine Winfield is 2nd for me and Shawn Springs is a REALLY really close 3rd. Springs was the textbook definition of a shut-down corner. Winfield is the epitome of what a Buckeye defensive back is: a leader, hits like a truck, spectacular in run support, great hands, step-for-step in coverage, and intelligent. He wasn't the biggest dog on the field, but he had the most fight and he showed it every snap.

Obviously Tatum has to be first here, but Malcolm Jenkins is my favorite Buckeye ever and the best football player I have seen in my life at tOSU. The leadership, the tackling, the knack for big plays, the hands, his disdain for fair catches on punts etc. When I think of a football player, I think of Malcolm Jenkins.

Here's an article that lists the best secondaries:

2. 1998
A part of one of the most talented teams in school history, Damon Moore, Antoine Winfield, Ahmed Plummer, and Nate Clements completed a fantastic stretch for Buckeye defensive backs. The foursome averaged 3.33 pass-breakups per game, the highest mark in program history.

Antoine Winfield earned consensus All-American honors following his season, which ranks as the best year by a cornerback in program history. He also became the first Buckeye to win the Jim Thorpe Award. Moore and Plummer, whose 1998 seasons ranks No. 5, both earned All-Big Ten honors.

1. 1997
The best defensive backfield in program history, the 1997 tandem of Antoine Winfield, Damon Moore, Gary Berry, and Ahmed Plummer take the crown. The secondary ranks in the top-ten for all of the categories, including fourth in chaos factor and fifth in pick-sixes.

Winfield, after becoming the first defensive back to lead the Bucks in tackles, and Moore earned All-Big Ten honors following the season. Winfield was a non-consensus All-American as a junior.

Just sayin': Antoine Winfield, Damon Moore, Gary Berry, Ahmed Plummer, and Nate Clements were all great DBs.
