While my gaming buddies and I are going to give SW:TOR a shot, this is the game we are all waiting for. PvP'ers are going to flock to this game over SW:TOR most likely and I will be standing in line waiting.

I too am going to give TOR a shot, but I'm really looking forward to this game. The most exciting feature is the revolutionary combat system. Getting rid of the everyday MMORPG standard of the "Holy Trinity" (DPS, Tank, Healer), and replacing it with something feels more realistic could make or break this entire game. I was a tank in EQ, a healer in Rift, and DPS in WoW/EQ2. I've played my fair share of MMO's, and Guild Wars 2 provides a large variety of new features that could blow away any standard MMO.

I think GW2 is my last real hope in a modern quality pvp mmo. I haven't enjoyed PvP systems in MMOs since Ultima Online, Dark Age of Camelot, and Shadowbane. Warhammer had potential but it didn't last. WoW's always sucked. Rift wasn't bad in terms of the PvP gameplay but the system wasn't any good. Aion wasn't bad but the system needed some serious work. TOR? Well if you want to call what they have a PvP system - it sucks balls.

My fellow gaming guild of like 12 years pretty much feels the same as myself. We're all getting old and tired of terrible MMO's for PvP guilds and now most barely bother with trying - so i'm certainly open to a BP guild on GW2.

I play video games with a friend of mine at 10 o'clock + every week night. We've played TF2/Rift/Civ5/a series of Risk browser games/BF3/EQ/EQ2/anything and everything in between. We've come to the conclusion that nothing is fun anymore. Our last hope is this game given its quest system, WvW system, and combat system. I'm holding my breath until its release; hoping that it's all and more that they are promising. With these expectations I know I will be disappointed with something along the way, but what I do know; and find it relieving, is that this game will be much different from its predecessors.

Rift was refreshing because of the dynamic events, and the continuous fights between the factions during those events. Warhammer was the only MMO I enjoyed consistently queueing for pvp. Even the weekly fight for Wintergrasp was entertaining in WoW.But, like everything else in these games it quickly grew to be a monotonous experience. DAoC was the only game that held my attention in the RvR experience. I'm glad to see GW2 emulate it and hopefully mature that experience.

Fair warning with the beta signup: according to GW2 they've had an overwhelming amount of signups, and it looks like the chances of getting in are 1-100. From what I've read, they are going to add more slots to the beta events given the interest, but have yet to find anything from arenanet to confirm it.

Also, if you missed it here is a AMA(ask me anything) on reddit about WvW-

If the answer below is how they want WvW, I'm sold.
There's been a lot of discussion about seeing enemy names in WvW. While I certainly understand the reasoning behind the request to see enemy names, we are fairly firm about not showing names of the opposing teams. I think of it this way, in a war people dont introduce themselves before trying to kill each other. When you are fighting in the mists for your world, you are in the middle of a giant war against two opposing forces who want nothing more than to take everything you own and kill you as many times as they possibly can. That guy who just shot you is not Bob the Engineer, he's the enemy.
Not showing enemy names in WvW also helps players that are less pvp-oriented feel less threatened about venturing into the battle because seeing enemies as anonymous 'invaders' creates a sense that opponents won't be able to recognize them and pick on them because of their lack of skill in a fight, so they in turn feel more embolded to go out and fight in the first place. Not showing names also makes it so people can feel as if they can 'hide' in a fight if need be, but still be around to help out. That's a pretty critical part of making WvW feel more inviting for people that would normally never think about playing PvP in any other game.
We've heard "I usually dont PvP, but I love WvW" again and again from people in our beta, so even though showing names might make for a more competitive pvp environment, we'd much rather create a game that is more welcoming for people that don't normally play the more hardcore PvP games. If you want to see enemy names and get to know the community of people you are fighting against, competitive PvP is the place to get that sort of thing in Guild Wars 2. WvW is the place where you fight with your friends and show your might against a faceless never-ending horde of enemies. It's not about taking names, it's about taking back that tower and claiming it for your guild so it can wave your flag right in the enemies face!

Hopefully ArenaNet does what they did for GW1 - have 2-3 open public beta weekends (though the number of people playing this time around would be FAR more than the first game).

I feel your pain in terms of MMOs. I loved Warhammer's combat system but it's about all it had going for it and couldn't sustain subscriptions. Rift was a lot better looking back on it now and honestly i'd consider firing it up again over continuing to play SW:TOR.
