Words are funny.

Taken by itself the word 'university' has no real zip and elicits no emotional response from me.

However, when coupled with 'The Ohio State' the word university takes on an emotional weight that is basically religious in magnitude.

I didn't get to experience OSU football when Woody had them on the brink of championships with regularity....and while I have always revered Woody....I couldn't actually appreciate the magnitude of his achievements..until now.

So JT has us poised for a record breaking steak of Big Ten titles. I'll be damned....this was unthinkable just a decade ago....and now I am once again damn near sick with anticipation as we ride this roller coaster of joy and agony as the team seems to struggle at times but always seems to come out smelling like...well...roses.

How good are we? Hell, once again I can't tell...but I know enough to say this emphatically: dismiss the critics....OSU belongs.

The final score might beguile the journey and the quality of the combatants... but it is past time to question who...that question has been answered. It is us..and it is up to us to determine our fate yet again. We are stupid spoiled..collecting Big Ten titles like a kid lines up a row of dominoes without recognizing the beauty of the design and the utility and elegance of their fall.

So now I know what Woody brought to Columbus...what he brought to The Ohio State University: championship football. Big Ten titles are being accumulated..but once again we stand at a cross road...are we good? Are we REALLY good?

Yeah, I think we are.

Damn I love this misery and hope cocktail. Will we show up? Will we survive the Big Ten gauntlet yet again? I can't wait to find out, but I don't want it to end so as to reveal the answer.

As OSU fans we recognize a familiar feeling and know what this is about...it is that feeling Woody brought an JT has even built on...it is the legacy of his program now, here for me to experience thanks to Jim Tressel. It is gift, a cure. a curse and damn near a sickness...and I love the duality of the moment...a little bit of trepidation, a whole lot of excitement.

Those who question OSU or our support of the Buckeyes are simply ignorant to our accomplishments or straight hating out of envy. Arrogant? You bet your ass I am... I am Ohio State.

You are damn right their vitriol is fueled by jealousy....and they should be jealous.
I'd also say I hope that some day they will understand...but I wouldn't mean it. There is only one way to truly appreciate what the Buckeyes have accomplished..and that is to experience it. I am not interested in sharing this with any fan base.

You can scoff at this post and remind me we are only playing IU..but I'll counter that the Bucks are playing Big Ten football. Anxious with nervous excitement on the biggest stage: We are nearing the half way point (how can that be?!?!?) and despite the questions about the running game..or the health of our secondary...I'm feeling this team like I did in 2002. These guys are on a mission and I'm going down the rabbit hole with them. I'm hoping we win tomorrow and we should..but that belief isn't enough of a salve to keep away the itch, the concern, and the excitement.

These are EPIC days in the history of our program...and we need to appreciate that while we are in the midst of it because they won't last forever. These are the days we will talk about when we are old men.

God it is good to be a Buckeye!

:oh:
