XB1 Halo 5 : Guardians

community seems to be split on campaign. Some say it's amazing, while other think it's complete horse crap

I'm about halfway through, so can't decide til I finish it

I find myself impressed with the mechanic and graphics, but let down by the story. I realize some are still playing the game, so i will not ruine it with spoilers, but who they decided to make "the bad guy" was dumb and weakly written. So many of the long standing characters had plenty of depth without needing to change the motives of any of them. I just felt like the story script was unsurprising and dissapointing and very unoriginal. How many times have we seen, read, or heard the bland story of heroe goes bad in some way? Just let down that this was the diection they went. I realize that there is a lot of story left in the arc, an entire game actually, but still.

My favorite online since H3

I am very pleased overall with matchmaking. I agree that this is the best Halo mutiplayer offering sence Halo 3. They find a nice balance between faster/modern feel and skill/weapon balance that Halo 4 lacked. There are a few little weapon balances that i believe we will see but these are minor. I wish they wold go away from the current ranking system and back to a basic number, like the Halo 3 1-50 ranks. I actually think they dont't like the number rank, as I believe they don't want anyone "scared off" by not seeming equal to everyone alse. I'm also sad to see that the post-game carnage report has to be selected and doesn't poop up instantly, again I think it's an effort to hide less-than-stellar team members.

My grades:
Arena: A
Basic Slayer: A
Swat: A
Lone Wolves: B+
War Zone basic: C+ to B
War Zone Assult: B to B+

I wish they would have a traditional Big Team Slayer playlist. War Zone is cool, but not a stand alone replacment for Big Team, that's just my opinion.

PS: If you truely care about rank then be careful about your first 10 games on your favorite playlist, as these first 10 games place you within a skill division. You can play up or down from that division over time. But, by running with a tem you know and can speak/call-out with will made your original placemant much higher. Just something to think about.

I've played some more MP and I will say it is fun, it just feels barebone.

Where's the map voting? MCC did that well.
Where's the pregame lobby? Sometimes I need to mute a player or see who's on my team and their service records.
Where are all the playlists? No infection, no action sack, no KOTH.. I want more variety than slayer, bases, or snd
Warzone... I just don't like it. I applaud them thinking outside of the box and all but it's just not fun. Assault is a little better but in the numerous games I've played the offense has not won ONCE! Collecting cards just makes it seem like they are trying to make money of microtransactions.
Customization. Sucks plain and simple.

It's a fun game, arena is smooth if not a little small on the map side. Wish there was a few games were everyone started out with something other than the AR. I like the ADS although bumper jumper is now an unplayable button layout. I like sprint as standard. I like the ability to toss lots of grenades.

They've catered well to the competitive sceen but bring back some of the unranked game modes as well those are where I have the most fun. Also hoping to see griffball whenever forge drops.

@EasternBuck we do have spoiler tags now, more than welcome to share your full thoughts on them, but please put them in tags

would love to read your detailed impressions on it after I finish it. Only one Mission 9 at the moment

BTW, I will say this (no spoiler) the issue with there being like 11 Locke missions vs 3 Chief missions is blown way out of proportion. There's a few missions that are seriously like 30 seconds long, while the Chief missions seem longer

Quick Thoughts

+Still a fun campaign, parts were difficult, but not frustrating like past halo levels
+ I enjoyed the story, unlike most
+Blue Team
+Buck
-Too Short, didn't like the 30 second missions
-Ending, not that it was a cliffhanger, but just how it ended. At least in Halo 2 it gave you something to look forward to with the "Sir, finishing this fight." All we got at the end was a sarcastic comment from Halsey
-Making the Cortona the bad guy, just don't know if I like that direction, but that could change depending on how H6 is
-Still nothing about the Ur-Didact coming into play, been waiting for Bornstellar to make an appearance since they announced these halos dealing with Forerunners, hopefully H6 revolves with something like that

I can understand where people are coming from about not liking the story, they said before you didn't need to know much about the extended universe to understand. But you do, they didn't explain the mantle all that well and why it's so important.

Maybe they'll have a book out to tie it together for me, but I wanted to ask: Buck (Nathan Fillion's Character) was in Halo 3: ODST as a Trooper, is that what the main nemesis to MC is as well? An ODST?

Cortana as the antagonist was an interesting move.
However I can't help but feel she's being manipulated by a greater force at work. Didact? Who knows.

If there is one thing people love, its a story of a hero losing him/her self, becoming the villain, then dying as a hero (finally) making the right choice.

I strongly suspect H6 will play out this way.
