yea, it's all guess work, i'm guessing this is the same planet as seen at the end of H3, and we had no idea, not sure if it's Onyx or not, would be cool if it was and he met up with Blue Team on the planet (even though that didn't happen in the book, but hell, since when have they followed the book )

Bungie claimed that there was an book plotted to follow where Ghost of Onyx left off. This new and yet to be written book would tell the story of the characters that are left within Onyx. -Important characters to the story. And I could easily see the Chief hooking up and somehow working with the Spartans within the sphere construct that is Onyx. This would also make Dr. Halsey a working character again.

Bungie backs the order, as in time line, as Halo 2, Onyx, then Halo 3. Halsey was under the impression that they were losing the war and the the secrets discovered within Onyx would provide her with a way to save some of the Spartans and in turn some form of humanity from annihilation. Then during Halo 3 the Chief and other events unfold that change that outlook as far as humanity having a chance to survive. Now you have Onyx, and other shield worlds like it, and a Master Chief with Cortana floating through space after the events of Halo 3. Both endings can come together nicely. Although the obvious is not always the correct choice.

Bungie was quoted about wanting to continue the story line beyond Onyx quite a while back. Microsoft now owns all rights to the Halo Universe and has created a special branch of their gaming industry that will have no other responsibility other than to develop and manage the Halo games and other materials like books, comics, and any other products. That company is called 343 industries. If you were like me knowing that Bungie was soon to be sidelined with what was totally their baby you may have thought that it could signal the fall of the series but if you look at their hires within 343 you will find many people critical to the game were hired from Bungie. 343 was the maker of the latest map pack for Reach and did a nice job. So don't make too extreme a separation between Bungie and 343, at least not this early in the jump for Halo from Bingie control to 343. Just for a FYI you need to play Reach right now as this is the last month that Bungie will have anything to do involving Reach and H3 matchmaking. The Bungie Day celebration, which will be on the 7th, will have many Bungie employees in matchmaking saying good by to the community. Now I realize that the odds of finding a match against them is low but if you are lucky enough to get them then win by 20 or more. As you know that is a Steaktacular but now Bungie has promised to made good on that award and send you a grade a cut of steak if you win against them on the 7th. Now I'm saying the 7th but check Bungie.net for details and the such. The smaller things they are doing start sooner than that, read below.

Here is the main quote:

http://www.bungie.net/News/content.aspx?type=topnews&cid=31731

Beginning on June 23rd, and running through the close of Bungie Day on July 7th, we'll be celebrating the last twenty years the only way we know how - by giving you, the best -blam!- community on the planet, all the parting gifts we can muster.

Here are 7 reasons you should come out and celebrate with us this year:

Because Blue Flames aren?t just for Bungie Employees or fans with iPhones. We?ll be turning on Blue Flames and the Bungie Nameplate for every last one of our loyal fans. (Kids, do try this at home.)
Because we just built a brand-new and totally free community iPhone app to keep you connected...and entertained!
Because we're going to tell you, in explicit detail, exactly what Bungie Aerospace is all about.
Because a collection featuring some of our rarest and most treasured personal Halo artwork will be up for auction, with all profits going to charity through a partnership between Child's Play and the Bungie Foundation.
Because the Bungie Store is going to be packed with Swag Sacks containing random, but totally kick ass swag, limited run commemorative t-shirts, and amazing commissioned posters from a handful of incredible artists, with all profits also going straight to charity.
Because on Bungie Day we'll be throwing down in a 24-hour Bungie vs. the World No Holds Barred Halo: Reach Marathon where we'll be making the promise of Steaktacular a certified beefy reality. You steak us. We'll steak you. Seriously, we're going to mail any team who beats us by 20 kills or more on Bungie Day a Grade-A cut of steak (gift cards for international players) while supplies last.
Because you've been just as much a part of this incredible twenty years as we have, and we simply couldn't bear it if you didn't show up and help us celebrate our anniversary and help send our Halo baby out with one hell of a bang.

The festivities begin on June 23rd and conclude as the final hours of this year's Bungie Day, July 7th, come to a close. If you don't show up, we just won't know what to do with ourselves, and we definitely won't know what to do with this ViDoc we've been slaving over for the last two decades.

We will. Fall/Winter of 2012 for sure with Halo 4 and then two for games, 5 and 6, that are slated for release because they have already said this new game (H4) will be the first of a new trilogy. It's 343 baby now, I hope they keep a model for excellence.

Footnote is this:

343 is now in charge of Halo series, and that's it. Apparently 343 has hired, or is going to hire alot of ex-Bungie employees, so the games will be very similar. 343 also did the latest map pack for Reach. Then the bottom part is about Bungie doing a bunch of cool stuff from June 23 to July 7, to celebrate 20 years and the close of Bungie on July 7.

@EasternBuck
I know it was announced, and i'm very excited...but they've also announced a Halo movie how long ago and we have yet to see anything on it? I could see Microsoft pushing back that fall/winter 2012 date multiple times before it actually comes out.

yea, knew about the 343 stuff, we'll see about that...

know you weren't addressing me, but for the halo movie, I wouldn't hold your breath on it, basically it's been decarled dead since 2007, some of the directors (peter jackson, spielberg) have kept saying they wanna work on it and one will be made....but nothing has been written or anything, so if one where to be made prob 2013 would be earliest

I also would love to see more halo games dealing with other parts of the universe (such as blue team, or the game based off the book first stirke (won't happen since that took place between halo:ce and H2)

Shortly after the movie possiblity made news it was declared dead largely due to one thing; money. Lots of money. The price for production quickly reached an estimate of 120 mil, without having even reached a studio yet, and was expected to continue to grow. This and other issues frightened the production houses although it is still considered a winning movie idea and will likely be made given enough time. Other major directors have shown strong interest in headed the project if and when the studio powers give the green light.

Give them time and I would think you will be happy. If enough people ask and are willing to pay $60 it will happen.
