The Buckeyes' newest 2017 DT is about to blow up even bigger.

With the 2016 version of signing day behind us, all the focus turns to the 2017 and even 2018 classes. Ohio State's 2017 class is expected to be among the tops in the country and the Buckeyes picked up another commitment on Tuesday.

In case you missed it, elite defensive tackle prospect Haskell Garrett pledged to Ohio State early Tuesday morning. Garrett attends Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, Nevada. He's originally from Hawaii. Garrett has solid size at 6'2, 280 pounds, but his high motor is what helps separate him from other prospects. Currently, Garrett is a four-star prospect and the number four rated defensive tackle in his class. He is also rated the 78th overall player for 2017 and holds 13 total offers at this time.

Garrett presents an interesting challenge for the Ohio State coaching staff, as he's never visited Columbus. Though this kind of situation is rare, Marcus Baugh committed to the Buckeyes a few years back without making a visit (though he did have some ties to Ohio). Nonetheless, the coaching staff is going to have to work hard on Garrett over the next year. Other top programs are sure to make a push for the Nevada prospect, and it'll be important for Garrett to eventually make a trip to Columbus and solidify things sooner rather than later. Garrett has already earned offers from the likes of Oregon, USC, and Notre Dame, schools that hardly slack when it comes to recruiting, and Urban Meyer will need to make sure that Columbus continues to look more enticing than all of those other places.

After struggling to recruit big-time defensive tackles in the last class, the Buckeyes are off to a fast start in 2017. With Jerron Cage and Garrett on board, Ohio State might only be looking to take one more at this position. New Jersey prospect Fred Hansard may be the ideal choice to take that last spot, but the Buckeyes are in on a handful of good ones that would no doubt be considered "takes." At the moment, it's safe to say we can dismiss that narrative that Ohio State cannot recruit highly rated tackles.

Bucks offer 2018 QB

The Buckeyes sent an offer out to 2018 QB Jalen Mayden yesterday. Mayden, a left-handed prospect from Texas, now holds five offers and is considered one of the top overall players in his class. At 6'2, Mayden is a perfect fit for Urban Meyer's offense with good accuracy and elite athleticism. Ohio State will most likely be a major player in this recruitment and it's good news that the Buckeyes are on him early. Though he doesn't hold an offer from the Longhorns just yet, Texas is expected to be a major factor as well.
