HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

A key for Day will be to keep Johnson for one more year - both for recruiting and to prove that the ship will stay on course for any doubters and negative recruiters.

The biggest disappointment for me in hiring Day is that we don't get to go through the drama of a coaching search. I even have an app downloaded that allows me to track all coaches in the country by boarding pass.

I'm really excited about the Day-era. I fully expect a step back from a pure wins/losses standpoint, if only because Meyer set the bar impossibly high. However, a fresh hierarchy on offense could really be needed. I know that the company line was that Meyer had let Day/Wilson run things, but I firmly believe that was still largely a Meyer offense. Urban Meyer should be remembered as one of the major offensive innovators of the modern era, but I think his schemes were becoming a bit dated. The thing I'm most interested in going forward is what the offense will look like without him. I think Day is a brilliant offensive mind, and look no further than the results on the field the past two seasons. QB play improved remarkably and it yielded the most explosive playmaker at QB we've seen in C-bus.

What the defense becomes worries me a bit. But I guess we'll get the first taste following the Rose Bowl when we see if the staff remains unchanged, or if things begin going in a different direction. Being a first-time HC, I wouldn't be surprised to see minimal turnover, if only because Day wants to maintain some familiarity/continuity. I still think a change has to be made at LB coach. Hopefully Grinch gets more of a DC role. If Schiano sticks around, hopefully it's just to ease into Grinch before he moves on to his next gig following 2019 (return to Rutgers?).

I'm still a little surprised that there won't be a full-on search, but the willingness to hand the keys right to Day leads me to believe that this is a transition that has been in works for a little while, and that the key players think/know he can handle it.

Fans of teams are always clamoring for that “young offensive mind.”

We just secured the best in the country; he developed a heisman finalist and a potential #1 overall career in what is a rather nascent playcalling career.

I really, really hope he keeps Wilson and Hartline for the sake of the offense. I think he’s smart enough to surround himself with talent.

I don’t know, man. It’s bittersweet but you have to roll. Before we know it spring ball will be here and we are going to be discussing our outlook for 2019; I’m ready to see what Day can do for this program.

This is sort of refreshing; a season littered with speculation is finally over.

Crazily enough, I think the level of coaches on the staff will go up. Replace the "friends/family" coaches, hold the staff accountable, no loyalties. Keep LJ (fingers crossed, although I think this is his door), Grinch, Hartline, Wilson, Alford and support staff. Let Day decide if Schinao (unless he decides on his own) is still high level as well as Stud. Show the door to Davis and Johnson.
I’m certainly hopeful for Day and company. And this is NOT a knock on Day, but there is no staff in the world that gets better by Urban Meyer leaving. That doesn’t mean tOSU cannot still be elite, but there is work to do.
