HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

yea, I mean if ND has its shit together enough to have all 11 men on the field, we lose that game. We ran to a hole where there was a person missing and still only got in by an inch because our line collapsed so bad.
And that was just a few plays removed from ND safety dropping a sure INT

Adding more to my Day thoughts. Most of this echoes what others have said after time to digest or review the game.

The defense did their job, until they didn’t. I’m still most disappointed in the offense. The big game offense. Absolutely nothing new was done for this game. How many wrinkles? New players? A spark? A surprise/trick?…A risk. Something that shows you have been preparing for this Game like none other. As it should be.

Michigan was scheming guys open. Creative TE release plays. How many times did they get a catch with no one within 5 yards? Now how many times did Ohio State have open catches? Marv’s crossing TD? Everything else was sideline heaves, prayers, diving catches or Stover big hand grabs. It felt lucky to make a play compared to their easy plays.

OSU from top down plays scared. Where are the young hungry kids. Mix in a Tate crossing route underneath, get more X touches, play Hayden who is lightning quick! It’s such an NFL 55-man roster of management.

Also agree on S&C. Bucks do not and have not looked like the stronger, faster and more well conditioned team recently.

Just like last year and the year before and the year before…there’s more room to be done to be Championship level.

I think this one is going to be his Air Force game.

Half the team doesn't play in the whogivesafuck.com Bowl against whogivesafuckU. Those that are physically present sleep walk through it and get embarrassed (if they can be after Saturday) even some of the hard core believers start to see the writing on the wall.

Yep. He had a 10 man defense on the field twice against him and didn't score until the second time.......by inches.

It's like an old "Polacks vs Italians" football game joke.

Ok I'm going to get real fucking blunt with you guys. You don't get to play what if only when it fucking suits you. It's fucking insufferable. I expect it from Jax after last year.

But you don't get go missed field goals and pick in the end zone meant we lost anyone who mentions it is a loser making excuses. While getting to make excuses why he he didn't lose to Notre Dame to fit your narrative. Pick one not both.

Trying to talk out of both sides of your mouth the night of is whatever it's an angry drunk looking for a fight. 2 days after the game is Disingenuous as fuck.

A team of cheats have completely fucked the perception of the last 3 seasons. OSU got cheated for 2 years but didn't win in a 3rd that's possibly probably fair, so I guess the cheating doesn't matter. But maybe that's loser talk. Who gives a shit, figure it out. At least I get that.

I don't get the wallowing in doom and gloom. Predictions of 8-4, then saying its impossible to not win 10, then discounting wins, and finally preemptively calling bowl games meaningless while simultaneously saying they'll be so disastrous it'll be the beginning of the end. It's fucking miserable.

It would be more enjoyable to talk about the team if they did fire Day and start fresh.

The Notre Dame thing isn’t an excuse. It’s literally what happened on the last play of the game right on tape. They only had 10 men. We ran where the 11th guy should’ve been. And with a one man advantage, we made it in by an inch. That’s literally what happened. As soon as it happened, the game was over.

Comparing that to a ref’s mistake that we had 40 minutes of game time to make up for is what’s disingenuous as fuck.

If chip scores that TD with 10 minutes left in the second quarter of course Freeman’s mistake isn’t why we won that game. But he didn’t. Context matters.

But thanks for getting “real fucking blunt” with us lol

The pic ended the Clemson game was the last play. The field goal that missed versus Georgia was the last play of the game.

So congrats on being fucking disingenuous. Cause it fits your narrative. It's a shit duplicitous argument.

Or are we going to relegislate Tressel's NC cause of Miami's penality and act like the NC never happened.

This mindset is complete and utter dog shit and needs to stop

I never said a single word about Clemson or Georgia lol. You’re just making shit up to be angry about.

And why would we relegislate 2002? the DB had to interfere because he got beat. We did our job. That’s part of what you try to do in that situation. You want to set yourself up to get the score or at least draw interference. That’s executing. You’re being obtuse.

But if we really want to talk about Georgia, yes, playing for a long field goal with a guy who spent all year kicking wobbly extra points was probably not a wise decision.

Because that's what you're doing with ND. You're playing the what if and discounting ND cause 10 people on the field and a dropped interception.

Any of those games we could do the exact same thing. Any game that is won or lost on a last 2nd drive we can do that. If you want to play that game and laugh at the people who said missed field goal away from beating Georgia like Jax does and go don't care we lost. It's Disingenuous.

I'm fine acknowledging we got away with one there but not in isolation. You can't separate that game and then other last drive games and go well we shouldn't have won that game and don't care we lost to other games and use it to crucify a coach.

Edit: I should probably take the 2nd person out of it cause it's not necessarily you making the point but it's a common sentiment around here that popped up after the TCUN game and it's really disengenous

Again, context matters. If you have a strong kicker and you go for the field goal and you miss it, oh well, that’s football. Sucks but what can you do.

But that wasn’t the context of this situation. We had a kicker who could hardly kick a ball straight all year. He was the furthest thing from reliable that you could find at that distance. And we just folded up and went for the kick and it was pretty much exactly what you expected if you were a realistic person who had watched Ruggles all year. Even his makes looked like dogshit.

Nobody is saying that any field goal attempt in that situation is stupid. The context is what makes it stupid. This is a thread about the coach who made the decision to do that. If you don’t think that poor decision is relevant to a thread about the coach who made that decision, I don’t know what to tell you because I can’t just magically fix cognitive deficiencies.

I agree the play at the end of the half was dumb. Even if we were worried about Michigan doing something run the clock to 15-20 seconds then run a play. The kick at Georgia game was not dumb.

The drive at the end Notre Dame is exactly what everyone wanted to see out of the team till it wasn't cause we threw the pick against TTUN.

That's my problem with these arguments. People are looking back on them and going well my opinion Ryan Day sucks is validated. Now that I look through that lens these other things he accomplished and pulled out was a fraud cause X Y and Z. Whole completely ignoring that if XYZ happened the other way in a few games we'd be making the opposite argument. I don't have a problem saying he fucked up at certain points. Just like I think he fucked up calling a fake punt instead of letting the Offense go for it last year in the game. Especially knowing how special our special teams were.

I have a problem with people changing the results of games to fit their viewpoint whole completely ignoring games that could be changed the other way just as simply to make their argument seem stronger. It's unnecessary. There is enough real shit to talk about without inventing shit to make an argument slightly stronger

listen i dont need your condescending talk on a fucking message board. its my opinion that Day and McCord were lucky that they were undefeated going into the ttun game and we were showing examples of why. does that make it less eggregious that they fell short on Sat or does that give it an excuse? either way dont get all message board tough. If you dont like whats posted (as long as its not personally attacking people) move the fuck along.

I don't rightly care if you do. Your opinion is not infallible. It's some shit to for people to say they want to see Day pull out games like that then turn around and basically say it well actually he didn't do that he got lucky as soon as he loses the next one. If you want to go that's my opinion man and ignore any other take it's whatever nothing anyone can say to change your mind then there is no point in bothering to even discuss it. It's just going to be old man yelling at clouds all day every day.

And if that's going to be the level of discourse here over the next few months we might as well be fucking bucknuts cause this place is going to get really intolerable very fast.
