HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

I have this much faith in Ryan Day. He was handed a powerhouse, and what has he done with it? Beats the teams he should beat, that most of us could beat with his talent advantage. When has he ever outcoached anyone? I'm still waiting to see it.

Guys in that segment did not do their homework. I guess they’re Midwest based, and don’t follow the SEC, because their predictions on the SEC were based on the premise that divisions will remain after re-alignment. They are not. The one guy who said Georgia vs Missouri will be the determining game next year is right, as the only way they’d end up playing would be if they meet in the SECCG. They’re not playing in the regular season! (And in that case there’s a chance both teams might make the playoffs, which would kind of render his argument invalid).

1000% your ass is on the line this year
That defense will be SICK
Offense should be better.. OL should be better
Zone 6 is obscene
A lot of players giving up a lot for this team to come back
Your ass has zero excuses
You better win it all

Before we win it all let's beat scUM. He really has zero excuse for losing to scUM this year. Should be a firing on the spot if he loses to them again, at home, with all we have coming back + added and on the flip side with all Michigan is probably gonna lose.

I will say for all the consternation we fans have on the outside, Day seems to have a heck of a group inside the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. And they have his back.

While we think the Buckeyes are a sinking ship doomed to failure, he’s got guys inside (Burke, Hancock, DL) and outside (Howard, Judkins, Bama Center) bought into what Ohio State is doing.

Winning the off season doesn’t guarantee anything, but it sure helps in college football to stockpile talent. He’s done that by a lot.

Count me as impressed at how Day has gone about the off-season so far. The recruiting class for '24 is great and will bring some immediate impact in my opinion. He has brought in a QB and a RB that will push the offense forward, especially with the run game. You can tell Howard will be an improvement over McCord just by watching his film. Imo he looks better throwing the ball, and has great size and good mobility. I'm excited for him to come in and lead the offense. The potential to have Trey back with the addition of an all SEC RB has me excited. And a number of returning starters will be back. If he can get another olineman in the portal and a great OC hire this will be a good off-season for Day.

Next year's defense could be better than this year, with continued time in the system and development of players on the roster. The offense can't be much worse, and I'm expecting a good improvement on that side of the ball. A change in philosophy will be much needed this season, with more rpo for Howard. This could be the best overall buckeye team since 2019 if everything falls together. Call me optimistic at this point in time.

I will be impressed when we have answers at OC, OL, and DL.
Those are the hard decisions that need answers.
Fleming is low hanging fruit.
Portal activity is skrong so far, but the #1 need still must be addressed: OL.

The difference is Washington, Oregon, USC and UCLA arrive.

It's no longer Buckeyes, TTUN and the rest. Recruiting gets far more difficult, let alone winning. So getting a new experienced QB, RB and more..on top of having a surprising amount of players coming back is needed to just compete with the best.

UCLA is no threat, Washington not sure they can keep it up, we will see, they seem to get good for a few years then go on a bad stretch.

USC in recruiting yes, but the results have yet to be seen on the field still.

Oregon is the only one in that group i'd call a serious threat in the now.

Listened to the latest THE Podcast episode. Landis or Birm mentioned that OSU fans should take pride in the fact that all these players are coming back because they support and are behind Day and OSU. Awesome point! Time to appreciate.
Yeah despite the voices outside the room the players seem to love the man.

Now there have been lots of not good enough coaches for Ohio State that were beloved by their players. But it still doesn't mean nothing

That's not necessarily true. The reality of employment is that there is only 1 person that you have to please. And that is the person who is ultimately in charge; i.e. the person that does the hiring and firing. Currently Ryan Day has that person's full support:

Ryan Day runs a fantastic program. He's our coach. I'm proud that he's our coach and he will continue to be our coach,” President Carter said.

Probably true. Washington is like Wisconsin, the stars align 2-3 times every decade or so.

Oregon a more consistent threat, but are more of a 4-5 times a decade.

USC head a great decade 2-3 times a century.

Immediately I'm more worried about Oregon, but I think USC will be back and dangerous before Washington threatens again.
Washington has made the playoffs twice in the last eight years under two different coaches. We've been waiting for USC to be "back" since Petey left 14 years ago and look like a dumpster fire right now under their latest "Savior." I'd put money on UW before the Condoms.
