HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

Day probably isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. But neither are the rumors. And as much as I hate to say it, someday, they will be accurate. Hopefully not for a decade.

Of course we are Ohio State, and nobody leaves of their own choice. Paul Brown may have been the only one. So, we'll probably end up firing him before he goes to the NFL.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are 1-13 this season and reportedly looking to make sweeping changes this offseason. According to Ian Rapoport, the Jaguars are expected to part ways with Doug Marrone and explore other head coaching options.

Two names have become frontrunners for the position. Both are in the collegiate ranks as the Jaguars are interested in Urban Meyer and Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day among others.

There has been no reported interest in Day leaving from his current position at Ohio State. He noted in November that he believes Ohio State is the best job in America and expressed his desire to stay with the program.

“I believe this is the best place in America, the best job in America,” Day said during a November press conference via ESPN reporter Adam Rittenberg.

Ryan Day receives contract bonus after Sugar Bowl victory

Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day started 2021 with a major victory over Clemson in the Sugar Bowl. The win clinched a berth in the College Football Playoffs (CFP) National Championship Game against Alabama on January 11.

It also unlocked quite the incentive in Day’s contract. According to USA Today sports project reporter Steve Berkowitz, Day received a six-figure bonus for coaching the Buckeyes to the national championship.

“Ohio State's win over Clemson in Sugar Bowl CFP semifinal will give coach Ryan Day a $100,000 bonus and get him to his annual maximum of $500,000 in on-field bonuses,” Berkowitz reported. “He took pandemic-related pay reduction of about $100,000 for this contract year and just over $236,000 overall.”
