HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

I would be disappointed if Day left without ever seeing how well this team could be with someone else calling plays.
I don't think we need a massive overhaul; let Hartline call plays, edit the position coaches/ST coordinator and reload (and pray Will Howard joins).
Lastly, I wonder how LJsr would feel about a new position being created as essentially a co-CEO and get a new DL coach in. The negative recruiting done on him every year will only continue moving forward.

Something needs to be done about LJsr. Knowles is on the cusp of building a fighting force of extraordinary magnitude, and he doesn't need one of his position coaches going rogue. And calling him asst head coach is fucking absurd from an organizational standpoint when he's a position coach amd not a coordinator. It leads to shit like we're witnessing between he and Knowles.

Maybe I'm still shook from the Ed Warriner/Tim Beck debacle but I absolutely do not want Hardline calling plays. Bring in an experienced OC once the coaching shake up happens. Largest priority for me though is to get that fucking o-line fixed.

I hear you, and I don't fault that line of thinking. My main concern is if someone is brought in to call plays, I think you're saying goodbye to Hartline. He's not going to want to be passed over. Your recruiting takes a hit and a good chunk of players likely follow him out the door to his next destination.

The flip side is - he likely in the near future is out the door anyways as I'd imagine he'll get a HC position that meets his wants and needs, and you have that same situation unfold anyways.

Serious question. Who is going to hire Hartline as a HC anytime soon? Let's be realistic here, I think it's pretty obvious that despite his official title he has little to do with actual play calling. We are seeing the same play calls we've seen during Day's whole tenure. Hartline is a great WR coach and recruiter, but if he IS responsible for calling plays right now, well, he needs a lot of work. How many schools are going to hire a guy who is basically a position coach as a Head Coach?

Not many, and with NIL the recruiting game has changed. I believe that his days of bringing in 4 potential future first rounders are over.

I think plenty would - many schools prefer their HC to not call plays and to act as CEO. We obviously know Hartline can recruit, and I would imagine he'd be able to mingle and fundraise with the best of them (one of the many important HC duties).

The idea that a HC needs to be a great play caller to be a coach is off to me.
