that's me....the second one....

what an aweseom article...funny on so many levels.

"Have no fear, I'll drink a beer," Robinson admits.

After initially declining an offer to learn the tricks of the trade--Robinson told his would-be mentor he'd be too "ashamed" to panhandle--the rhyming street character eventually grew into the trade. "He was one of the best," Robinson says of his teacher. "He could talk to somebody, like I'm talking to you--you'd go to the bank machine and get him a hundred dollars."

Robinson learned different styles of panhandling. Some panhandlers pretended to be Vietnam vets; his mentor liked to drop other sob stories. "He talked college talk. He talked your language...bank machine ate his card up, just because he's black nobody will help him. He's got so much other stuff," Robinson says. "I'd imagine him making eight, nine hundred dollars a day."
