Highest Scoring CFB Game?

seed702

A dyin' breed.
Had a question come from a friend, and I can't seem to find anything online...

What's the highest scoring college football game? Has anyone scored 100 in a game?

I figured I could come to BP and get my answer. Thanks!

The highest scoring game happened a LONG time ago.

Georgia Tech beat Cumberland 222-0....

The coach of Georgia Tech last name was Heisman. The game was pure revenge from a lose in basketball (I think) to Cumberland.

It was revenge for a baseball game earlier that year. A game in which Heisman was the baseball coach for GT. Cumberland was accused of using pro players in the game. A game they won, oddly enough 22-0.

The most recent time it occurred at any level, at least as far as I can tell, that someone hit the century mark, was in Division III in 2003, when Rockford defeated Trinity Bible 105-0.

Here is the boxscore

Two funny parts, just to show that they really weren't trying to purposely get to 100, Rockford's QB only threw two passes the whole game, and completed both for touchdowns. The other funny part is the backup tailback that carried the ball just four times, but scored on all four.

Rushing No Gain Loss Net TD Lg Avg

The story I read regarding the GT/Cumberland massacre (translation: take it with a grain of salt until confirmed) said that Cumberland had to put together a team to play this game. Heisman had asked for it in order to salvage a little dignity, so CC sent some guys down thinking they could compete.

What resulted was the type of massacre that would make Stalin weep. By the end, it was reported that GT would kick off to CC, and the CC player would literally throw the ball at the nearest Yellowjacket--just to avoid getting hurt anymore.

Then again.... what do I know?

Another interesting tidbit from that game: Georgia Tech's 220-0 victory came at a considerable cost. The star player of that game left the Georgia Tech team immediately afterwards. Chuck Norris told Coach Heisman that he enjoyed the quaint little sport, but felt that it was too repetitive and not physical enough to ever cause him to break a sweat.
