Holding Calls--Penalty Discussion (Merged)

It's possible, but not likely. If I see a center doing that then I'm lining up Larry Grant and Quinn Pitcock in both A gaps and firing away.

I have to go back and look at the film again, but the "spirit" of the rule is safety of the long snapper. If they are milking it I'm not sure what can be done.

EDIT: Wow I came back waayy late. Anyway, I doubt that the snapper keeping his head down was done on purpose to try and draw a penalty. I haven't seen this penalty called since middle school, but hey, what do I know. I haven't re-watched the film so I'll have to take my buckeye brethren's word for it that it was bullshit.

They sure as hell were. The next punt nobody even touched the center and he was one of the first ones down the field for the tackle. That was noticed all the way up in 29D.

Bingo. bucks4me and I had about a dozen people over to watch the game, and everyone in my living room was screaming at the TV when we saw the long snapper running down the middle of the field, completely unimpeded, on the very next punt since nobody was going to touch him.

That hit on Troy that gave you guys a automatically first down if that wasnt horseshit I dont know what was. If he is suppose to be so good then quit crying like a little bitch. You fuckin Ohio state fans kill me. You win a few years in a row and think you have been ruling the world. Play some teams with strength on the ROAD during the season besides Michigan and then lets see if your #1. You beat us this year but I remeber the days with your boy Willie Hayes you all werent talking crap back then or the days with John Cooper. Enjoy the ride...who goes up must come down and ohio state bucks are on their way down if the rematch happens. GO BLUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey, how about you represent the conference for once and not embarrass yourselves in the Rose Bowl again this year? I'm getting sick of you idiots makings asshats of yourselves every year in Pasadena on national TV. Third time in four years ... maybe you'll show up for once?

Henne & Hart: 0-fer-5 versus OSU and bowl opponents.

Aren't we asking alittle too much from Meatchicken to win a bowl game?

On a few of tOSU's extra points, Norman was getting blown backwards after snapping the ball. A guy sitting near me commented about it on the kick that made it 7-7, and we were both complaining about it on the kick that made it 14-7, before Spitler was flagged on the TSUN punt.

I wondered it JT commented about TSUN blasting Norman on the XPs, so then they looked for it more closely and made the call on the punt.

On the XP, they'd just mark it on the kickoff, setting up an easy touchback, so it's usually not an important call - but it's a huge call on a punt. However, tOSU held after that and then drove the field for a TD, so it didn't end up hurting the Buckeyes.

The NCAA Rules of Football, Rule 9, Article 2r. states:

r. When a team is in scrimmage kick formation, a defensive player may not
initiate contact with the snapper until one second has elapsed after the
snap (A.R. 9-1-2-XXII-XXIV).

Anyone time how long Spitler waited before initiating contact?

Do you mean Willie Mayes Hayes? Well he did help Cleveland win a World Series.

Anyone else notice the lack of holding calls in the bowl games this year? If the trend continues, do you think it favors OSU or LSU?

I agree, and I think it favors the Buckeyes because in the Big Ten a defensive lineman has to be brutally sodomized before offensive holding is called. The Buckeyes are used to it.

I was shocked watching the UCF/MSU game that holding wasn't being called on painfully obvious plays. I saw one UCF lineman drug down by his facemask right in front of an official and it was ignored.

Unreal.

We have all seen in th past that Ohio State gets called for every little infraction while the teams we play seem to get away with murder. If the trend continues, Gholston will get raped all day with no calls.

i agree the no call has gone down on holding, but look at some of the holding calls that are being called. The Illinois game there were some terribal holding calls made. And for the worst the Pitt-WVU game. WOW. That was one of the worst called games i've seen and Pitt still won. Props to WVU last night though over OU.
