Home Theater System Question

Brammer98

Been looking for a nice home theater system BUT...I am picky and want one with wireless sattelite speakers and 500+watts. I am a Bose man but am not willing to pay $4000.00 for a new home theater system. Any recommendations?

you could always find one that has wireless satelite speakers that's a little under 500w and get a powered subwoofer to make up for the difference. You really don't need to have that much power going to your sattelites... there's no need

Not a big fan of wireless, always end up with alot of interference. Like if you turn on the microwave, you get a buzz in the speakers :)

Bose can lick my nuts, they are entirely too expensive, and sound like shit anyway. I dont know if they do wireless, but I would stick with Klipsch, or Boston.

i was wanting to go wirless as well, but then i came up with a cooler solution. run the wires behind crown molding, you never see the wires. we have corner molding as well, so the wire comes out of the reciever and along the baseboard, up the corner molding and then behind the crown. Yes, i used a crap load of cable, the the end product is well worth it.

Don't want to disappoint, but there are no wireless speakers in existence right now that are worth $1, let alone any more. I would recommend either waiting for another year or two (until some decent wireless speakers do come out...but there's no guarantee), or finding some way to use wires, but hide them. In my house, I drilled through the floor and ran all the wires through the floor trusses (from the basement).

Good luck finding a good set of wireless speakers... run some high gage speaker cable through your wall/crown molding/floor/etc.

You will wind up with much better (and cheaper) speakers, better sound, more power (if you don't live in your own house, power doesn't really matter unless you are running the amp from the basement to speakers in the upstairs bedroom... two floors above).

Bose imo are over-priced, above average speakers... you can get the same quality for a cheaper price, or get better quality for the same price...

Here's the website of BIC America BIC America

This company has good speakers that are priced well. I have a pair of their towers, a pair of bookshelf's, a sub (with an amp on the rack that only powers the sub), and a center chanel. My stuff is old (purchased part of it in '93 and the other part in '94). They still sound great!! When I purchased these they blew away the Polks and Boston's I was interested in (and were cheaper).

I haven't kept up with the industry, however I like BIC, Boston Acc., and Polk Audio... The BIC's sound similar and are much cheaper...

Not talkin about the radio, talkin about their home theater stuff. There are no mids........all highs and bass. Drives me nuts. I shouldnt say they sound like shit though, I guess what I mean is.......they sound like shit for what they cost.

Klipsch makes the best shit in the world in my opinion. However as far as inexpensive and nice sound goes, keep an eye on outpost.com for the Polk R50's and R30's.........they run specials all the time, can get pairs of them for like $100.

I agree with the no-wireless advice and think you should, overall, get a basic range/quality of speaker in mind and then go and listen to them with varying music. (for instance, Klipsch/Infinity/Polk, maybe Athena).

People swear by their speakers and it is largely a matter of preference, while certain things are always undesirable (some, like the polk R30's?, drop off a lot of the base, while some can't reproduce high notes sharply enough, etc. - some of this depends on whether you are getting a subwoofer I guess)

In general, in my experience, Infinity's are very faithful in that they strive for exacting sound reproduction. They are very "bright" because of this, but to some it is annoying compared to Polks. Polks are very "warm" and mellow in comparison, but the sound is much more natural to many ears. I haven't heard enough of Klipsch but have heard good things about them. (I still like Infinity though a lot of people have been hating on them lately - I think they became passe. . .)

Anyway, have fun! I wish I had the $$ to do this - my TV sucks ass. (oh, and what type of music do you listen to? Or is it just for tv? I find classical/industrial/electronic music fans prefer bright sound, while more rock, probably tv, accoustic, etc. prefer warm speakers. R&B fans just need a subwoofer. :)

Klipsch is one of the very few that still uses a horn tweet.....highs are SO much more clear with em. My roomate has a klipsch 5.1 setup, yamaha receiver, and it rattles the houses up and down the street :)

This is a link to the R50's on outpost right now. $79 a piece. think they retail for $199. I have the R30's at home, really like them. Usually you can find them for $59 or so a piece.

Well, I was originally set to go buy a Bose system but now it sounds like I don't need to waste my money. I have checked Ebay and have looked for wireless and there isn't much available right now. I have heard of getting a "monster cable" for the speaker wire and a "Bananna Clip" to make any system sound better. Anyone have any information on these things? Thanks in advance.

Monster cable, or Lightning audio cable..........really does not matter that much honestly. Now mind you it is only 7:30, and I am not awake yet, but the only banana clip I can think of is the clips on the back of the receiver that punch the wire....they are nice and easy to use, but I dont think they would help with sound quality.
