How did you guys lose to USC?

Was Terrelle Pryor really that bad the first half of the season? Because the Ohio State that played in the Rose Bowl was wayyyyyyy better than USC. I think that's why Oregon fans were so confident, we killed USC, and you guys lost to them. I knew the Purdue game was a fluke. But USC is still USC.

TP was still maturing, hence, a buttoned up playbook. After the Purdue debacle, he rededicated himself to becoming a better QB and it culminated in his breakout Rose Bowl performance. If those two teams met again in January, it would have been a whitewashing IMO.

The two big things that came to mind are TP's INT (which was a gift wrapped TD for USC), and the decision not to go for the TD on 4th and goal from the 1 with a 6'6" athletic QB (should have been a gift wrapped TD for OSU). Yeah, I know the if game doesn't mean shit in the real world, but if either of those go the other way, USC's last drive is just a prelude to an onside kick. As others mentioned, USC was not the same team after their trip to Columbus. We beat em up good, but left it close enough for USC's O-line (and one big pass) to decide the game.

Fuck USC. The sad thing is, even with USC's bottomless well of talent, the coaching changes may equal a long, long time before we get another shot at them.

My only knock against Tresselball. When you play elite teams that will likely put up some points, you have to take a shot at a gift like that.

Then Oregon fans are stupid.

Terrelle was a lot worse before November. The biggest improvement was in maturity between plays and outside of games. In games, he became a lot more decisive.

He's a freakish athlete, but he hesitates to run. Last year he would end up taking coverage sacks on 2nd down instead of taking 8 yds on a scramble.

This is what most of the assumptions didn't realize. He has the freakish gifts of Vince young, but he wants to be a complete qb, to a fault at times. That's why he didn't want to go to Oregon or wvu / or their sister campus in Ann arbor. Nothing against those teams and their exciting offenses, but he wanted to learn how to operate out of pro sets as well.

He also didn't trust his reads, sometimes because he missed things. Especially early on, he tended to triple or quadruple clutch them ball before throwing, making the throw late and tipping his hand to the d.

If we play that game now, herrob gets less touches. Saine's injuries had caused two years of tentative running from an already stiff rb. Herron did very nicely in spelling beanie and was mr. Consistent. That was part of the improvement in November, saine became a major force on the ground.

The ol also improved a lot as the season wore on. Against USC, they kept pryor clean while passing but weren't consistent in creating running lanes. The emergence and maturation of shugarts and overall cohesion of the line really played a big role there.

USC just about lost that game early by gambling on 4th down. That was a very questionable TD.

I have a problem with draws on 3rd and long at the 30, or run heavy offenses when the defense isn't staying honest (and the qb isn't carrying out his fakes).

Sneaks on 4th and 1 are much different, and about split on the pros and cons.

All this and the blocked punt that wasn't. I still don't know for the life of me how that ball got between his hands.

Tressel overestimated USC and played it too conservative. He didn't get aggressive on offense, even though Ohio State had great field position for much of the game. One of the few times that Tresselball bit him in the ass.
