How does work make you feel today?

I need to pick up shifts on Thursdays more often.

I got paid to sit in a conference room for three hours along with most of our department, eat some food, and listen to presentations. This happens once a quarter on Thursdays, and I work for less than half of the rest of the day (an hour and change is eaten up by travel time).

HR peeps:

Interviewed for a position that would make my life 10x better. Felt great about the interview. Better than I did about most others I've ever done. That was 2 weeks ago. I hadn't heard a thing. Made myself forget about the position, assumed another candidate was chosen, and it was back to my crappy job. Although it was odd to have not even gotten an email, I had given up on any prospects of getting it. Not that 2 weeks is long, but this is a small-medium company and a position that I had been told was needing filled quickly.

Anyway, out of nowhere, I finally got a phone call/voicemail today saying they "had an update about the position" and to "call back as soon as possible." ???

I wasn't able to reach them back at their office, but left a message and will contact them tomorrow. My question is, what should I be expecting? I've tried to not get my hopes up and I can see this going both ways. If I was passed over, a voicemail would have been just fine stating that. I also wouldn't have minded a voicemail stating an offer. I guess my confusion lies with the "call back." Why have me call back just to tell me I wasn't chosen? But also, why not just state in the message I have an offer and to call to discuss details?

What's the thinking here?

Sincerely,

Overthinking Job Searcher

Got the job offer.

Not quite what I was expecting, but happy for a new opportunity. Finally.

It's okay.

I didn't get the new job last week
This week I find out we aren't getting merit increases
But instead they're giving us 1 extra vacation day and 1 extra company holiday
But my boss is transferring almost all of the work the one lady I work with on my plate

Its difficult out there. While I would agree, that sucks - be happy you have folks who are happy to have your back and help you succeed.

I'd be in a world of hurt right now with student loans if it wasn't for the fact my grandfather had (secretly) set aside some money for my brother and myself when we turned 18.

That type of family support, you simply can't measure.

Oh I agree 100%, don't get me wrong, I am very grateful for what they have done for me, and it is eating away at me that I am still a finical burden on them. I wanna help them out soo bad, but I can't. Everything I earn, over half goes to paying student loans, and I'm only making $10/hr

I may have a chance to move up and more towards photography and graphics work much quicker than I expected. I'd be back in an office, but I'd still have the freedom/ability to visit the parks for work, so I won't go insane staring at cubicle walls all day.

Pretty excited, now to hope everything works out right.

Thinking of starting a handyman business on the side of my current job. Gauge what kind of customer base I can develop, and go from there.

I could do pretty much anything and make the same amount of $ that I make at my current job. I figured I could at least do something I enjoy, be my own boss, and have the opportunity to make more $ while doing so

Thoughts, opinions, etc from business owners and entrepreneurs?

As long as you have stability to build from, absolutely. However I wouldn't give
Up the daytime job until you're swamped from the new job path. Don't want to Lose out on potential income should the side project fall through.

Just got the call. Formally extending me an offer for the IT/Dba position.
I was at my desk, jumped up, yelled. Put my hands up in triumph. Some
Of the members and a few of my trainers just looked at me.

They have no idea how much more difficult their jobs are going to be in 2 short
Weeks. Today has been a good day.

I know a couple of you are searching. It isn't easy. I lucked out with timing which rarely ever happens for me. Hold on, be strong... Good things will come.

Congrats on the call. I'd love to see the look on some of those people's faces when you jumped up

I'm not quitting the day job by any means. This would be more like a test to see if its something I could move forward with, eventually quit the day job, and take on this other full time

Seeing what you do in the "home repairs" thread...heck yes it looks like you could get a good client base.

No experience on the entrepreneurial side, but you appear to have the skills to take you far.

I think some of my employees caught wind that I may
Be leaving soon. I have the option to designate my
Replacement or the company will hire from internal and
External candidates after I'm gone.

One of my trainers brought me coffee this morning. Let the
Ass-kissing commence.
