How much offense does a team really need?

I dunno...I could have looked it up...I just remember the blowouts, and I remember the two 70 point games in a row. And I remember Toledo looking crappy, lol. Pitt has come a long way. Maybe that has something to do with Penn State falling a long way?

You are by far the quickest poster and should get an award.

Nice post earlier....I guess we won't know until we have a bit more experience and some cogs that are tunrning in the machine. I trust the coaches and believe that they will make the best decisions. It will get better and would be tough to be worse than 140 yards of offense.

Couple thoughts-

First, lets not worry about the number 137 too much. Point being that for about 200 yards we could have put 45 on them. Yardage totals are tough to rack up when you only need 3 yard scoring drives. (You also can't throw 80 yard bombs to Santonio from their 3)

Second, when you are facing a redzone D... its tougher to get yards (And for some teams) tougher to score in the redzone. I'll give NC State's D some credit here too.

Third, the problem was the inability to turn those FG's in to TD's as MIli pointed out earlier... Even in Tressel ball, this is unacceptable.... we should have gotten at least 2 more TD's, not including the Ross fumble...

Fourth, the other thing you have to consider in regard to play calling and the offense is that Tress and the staff have preconceived notions going into games about whether the other team can put points on us... he flat out said after the game that he didn't think NCSU could score much. He obviously thought K-State could... so he came out gunning. (Also notice that if you go back to early games in the year, the Offense is more wide open... Texas Tech, Washington last year... this is to make sure that the Defense is where he wants it to be before he leans on them too much).

Anyway... My big complaint is that after we get turnovers, we do tend to shut things down to make sure we get something on the board.... so Tress tends to play conservative to make sure that he doesn't let them get a pick and get the momentum back....

The post Nuge red zone offense might be a little more loose too.

One thing.... it always amuses me that other teams fans say, "Your offense can't...." But doesn't it seem odd that in what 28 of the last 30 games they've done just enough... Its not that the offense 'can't'... its just that they 'don't'... unless they need to.

this post from a Pack fan tells me all I need to know about our offense. If it wasn't over 500 characters, I'd make it my signature.

Corndogg13 on Packpride 9/20/2004:
We're getting good recruits these days; well, guess what - OSU has been getting them all along. They're style of football may be horribly boring and incredibly lame looking, but I would take it any day over the fumble-ruskie, five WRs-shifting, throw back to the QB, no-scoring, TA-butterfingers offense we currently have. I hate watching OSU play - the sky is always gray, the game is always boring, and JT's vests are always tooling, but if you were to change those jerseys to read "NC State," you all would be happy to be on here defending yourselves after every win against a no-name, wannabe football school like us.
