How well will we fare against the Horns next season?

i watched about 3 or 4 texas games this year. if you stop benson, you win. okie state rolled all over the field on them for the first half, then tanked it. hell, kansas had them beat.

if osu can get pressure with a 4 man front on young, texas wont fare well offensively. osu doesnt have the trouble with running qbs that michigan does.

texas' d is tough, but they lose johnson and their safety. wright the DT is rumored to be going pro, but he hasnt impressed me at all. all texas had to do is look at the osu game to see how to contain hart.

teddy ballgame will give them fits all day.

Put a spy on Young and they might not score. He is lethal when he gets outside.

I think that OSU's D will be able to hold their O in check. That game is going to be a key early season matchup!!!

I love OSU's chances in that one.

this game is the perfect blueprint for osu. ttun gets outside pressure on young and he misses a wide open fb on 2nd down. then on 3rd and 10 they try to blitz finally and they do it up the middle, and young just runs outside. michigan's DC is the equivalent of jm bollman as an OL coach.

Texas will have talent to replace the weapons that they lose.... but they won't have the experience since it will be early in the season. We'll have the biggest advantage of all.... coaching. JT can coach circles around Brown.

Put Ginn in a Texas helmet in practices leading up to the game. Vince Young has scary speed and elusiveness, but, ah, I bet we can prepare effectively. Contain Young, and Texas will have no teeth early next year (emphasis on 'early'). I'll be interested in the line play on both sides of the ball though. Texas has some serious linemen. If we can control them enough to establish any running game, it seems like we shouldn't have too big a problem winning by a score or two. Also, if Texas is half as bad then as they are right now with kick and punt returns, they're fooked.

Still, I figure it to be one of our top 3 challenges next year. But we're hitting them at a good time with the talent they lose this offseason, relative to the time the weapons they'll reload with have to really adjust to their new starting roles.

My guess is that we would play a similar defense as we did against KSU a year ago. D'Animal might be the best MLB for that game b/c of his speed.

I think we will have trouble running the ball. Regardless of who leaves they will still have a great D-line. Remember 4 years ago they signed 7 D-lineman, I imagine a few have switched positions, but they will still be tough to run against.

I feel good about this game, our staff usually comes up with a good gameplan for 1 dimensional teams.

I said this on a similar VY thread, but.....the key for us next year is we will have a LOT more fresh defenders ready to play. At the end of the Rose Bowl scUM had trotted out the same tired 11 the whole game and Young made them look like they were running with their pants full of something. I was really fearing for the scUM defenders. I was certain one of them was going to get their tongue stepped on.

Actually, even if Smith's suspension is still two games (thus including the spring and fall practices), he'll be back in time to act as Young on the scout team before the Texas game...

When can they request reinstatement for him? I thought he would be able to take part in fall practice, just probably miss the first game.

Whatever happens I don't see them scoring that much on us. The biggest difference for them will be the loss of Benson. You just don't replace a guy who has had four 1,000 yard seasons during his career.

I do look forward to talking with their fans. These guys live and breathe football and have lots of pride in their program. By the way, you can bring Sandra Bullock to Columbus, just leave McConahey (sp???) home.

I don't know that Smith has Young's speed and mobility is all, just figure Ginn would represent a better match, even though he's certainly overkill.

In trying to gameplan stopping Benson, the weasels opened up possibilities for Young...especially the outside. I'm surprised weasel staff didn't adjust their 2nd half D to plug outside lanes that Young used so effectively the whole game.

Of course, this is easy for me to say.:wink2:
