I am FOR Ohio State. I recognize that there are many who are also for Ohio State but think JT should step down. I get that...and we are both still Buckeyes. I don't 'hate' those that think what is best for OSU is to move forward without JT because I recognize we all want what is best for OSU. Stop it. You are way too rational and reasonable. :)

Actually, I think he will have to go. I don't want him to on a personal level. This one bad does not define the man that Tressel is. Who will lead the program with more class and integrity? Who will care about OSU and people as much as him? Who will get results on the field better than JT? Still, he has to go because the sins he committed are not venial. He lied to OSU and the NCAA and he played players that were ineligible. As the face of the program, he and the powers that be will find it difficult for him to continue in that role.

But most importantly, there is blood in the water. Dorian Bell getting suspended for the year leads to "This program is out of control" when all that happened was a kid screwed up (again). Right now reporters are contacting former players, especially the disgruntled ones, offering money for THE story, and all it will take is one or two who say JT covered up their transgressions too. It won't even matter if it's true or not. The drip, drip, drip of negativity around Tressel will make it impossible for him do anything but combat it. I will be cringing all summer every time I turn on ESPN. It's only a matter of time before we see Louis Irrazarry or some such player on Sportscenter detailing the corruption in Tressel's program. I hope I'm wrong, but I believe it is inevitable.

Finally, the focus of the major NCAA violations is Tressel. The investigation will result in possibly a year long suspension for the coach, post-season bans, and scholarship reductions. By him stepping down, the program may spared the worst scenario. This will be used against Tressel in recruiting too, so what scholies are availbable might not be filled by the most elite of players like we are used to. And when Tressel runs out there with a team that is out-gunned by some other B10 team, all these people who don't think what he did should cost him his job will be the ones running him out of town faster than you can say "John Cooper".

Good luck finding former players that are disgruntled. Funny how you used Irizarry, considering even after he fucked up, JT helped him get to YSU.

also, JT stepping down or getting canned won't stop reporters persuing the story. It just becomes even bigger.

Tressel has helped Mo C too. It has nothing to do with that. It has to do with a reporter saying, "My magazine, station, etc. will pay you x thousand to tell us that Tressel looked the other way at your indiscretions." When that happens, game over.
