I Farted in the Elevator (must be Taos)

I thought it was a fair article by Mandel. No one is shocked that Ohio State is 7-0 at this point. Most people predicted them to make it through the easy early schedule unscathed. What is surprising is that Ohio State is #1 instead of #5 or #6, and that's because of all of the upsets - not because of anything special the Buckeyes have done up to this point.

The comments are hilarous... somehow I found the most rational one out of the whole lot (which means it will get ignored):

Gee, HEY YOU BIG TEN BAFFOONS! Who have you beaten, besides other Big Ten teams? Oh, Ohio State beat a mid to second tier Washington team.

Hmmm...I suppose that the signature win by the SEC out of conference would be...oh wait...that's right...there isn't one. You beat up a VT team who can't decide if they have a quarterback or not, a Lousiville team who was exposed as a pretender...and who else...????

Tennessee sure looked good against Cal, didn't they? Or how 'bout Roll Tide against FSU? Or maybe all powerful Auburn against USF? (By the way...I love how SEC fans point to Tommy Tubberville's record against top five teams as reason why he's such a great coach. I would point to his subpar record against unranked opponents as why he is NOT.)

The point is that you'll rip on other conferences, but won't look in the mirror at your own. Except for beating each other up (and being rewarded by the same poll bias that you're crying about now), the SEC is an out of conference joke.

So stop selling the "we're the greatest" Kool-Aid, 'cuz nobody's buying it.

I can't name a signature win that any conference has over another... the closest I can think of is Oregon over scUM (only listed as scUM is finally playing some ball as of late) and USF over Auburn. Other than that, there's no big wins like the Ohio State-Texas games of the past two years.

I'll give an honorable mention to USC over Nebraska, only because this game was scheduled when Nebraska was a good football team, much like our scheduling of Washington.

These are the kinds of posts I was talking about yesterday. :smash:

Who the fuck cares? Seriously.
I find their twisted logic (SM and JW) hilarious - so, I care about it in that sense.

But, other than that your point is sound. These writers' words in the end mean little for the fate of a team in the BCS.

It is almost as if, once the AP booted itself out of the BCS the prima donna in some of them woke up.

The more OSU bashing the better, in my opinion. Last year, the press kissed our butts and bashed Florida. Florida used it for buleten board matirial while we got fat and happy. As long as OSU finishes 1 or 2, the press can take all the shots at us they want. Perhaps we can use it this time.

Just tired of people bitching about talking heads. It's like people bitching about Ann Coulter. It only feeds the idiots' fire.

We play better as the underdog. Let people continue to state that we shouldn't be #1. Fuck 'em.
